Is the uhd display that nice to justify the 400 dollar premium? I'm debating whether to pay it or not. I love nice screens, but I don't know if that screen is that nice. Thanks!

I have the uhd and never going back 4k is just insane.... my alienware 17 r1 has the 2560x1440 120hz I do miss the 3d but playing in 4k makes up for it

you do drop in fps playing in 4k but playing rise of the tomb raider max setting I avg. 45-55 fps so it is very playable same goes for witcher 3

Thanks for that information. That panel is different from the one in the R4 17 though right?

Oh awesome. I just bought the 17 with the 4K display and 1060. I hope the video card will be fine, I didn't have the money to go 1070. I know people would rather upgrade the videocard over the screen but I'm really partial to a nice vibrant screen. Only thing is that I would prefer a glossy panel over matte.

    Actually that's 2K. My 2014 Razer Blade 14 that I sold to afford my 15R3 had a resolution of 3200 x 1800 which is actually 3k.

How is Windows 10 display scaling on the 4K? If you keep things at native 4K resolution, what percentage do you normally have to scale things at via the "Customize Your Display > Change the size of text, apps, and other items" for things to be reasonable? Does the scaling seem to work for all apps, or just some of them?

Yeah Windows 10 handles high resolutions much better. I just hated seeing games look blurry downscaled to 1080p. Its mainly at this point up to devs to update their apps. I wouldn't mind it if I wasn't gaming.

For me, it's not a problem because quite frankly the hardware can still put out 60+FPS at 1440p or higher in all the titles I run. SWBF, Total war Warhammer, Doom, Gears 4, all run very smooth.

Unless you have UI scaling problems there's no reason to turn something down that low.

I agree with you. I would downscale that low on my 2014 Razer Blade 14. The 870m would cry at anything over 1080p on the 1800p display. Haha.

I originally bought the GTX 1080 with 1440p screen. Visually it was a *really* bad screen - one of the worst I've seen for quite a while. The performance may be good - nits and 120 G-Sync - but I couldn't get over the lines.

I've sent that back and got the GTX 1070 with the UHD screen and it is beautiful. Based on having seen both, I would recommend the UDH over the QHD without a doubt.

I dunno, after using both the 4K and the QHD, it depends what you mainly do. 4K is beautiful for Windows and web use. Very sharp details, pictures look great. But holy crap the Windows scaling annoys me to no end constantly. Plus, as amazing as 4K looks in game, unless you have your glasses off and have your face 1 feet away from the screen (or just have insanely good eyesight), you won't really see a huge difference or any at regular gaming distance of about 2 feet away or so from screen.

Now for the QHD, I will admit there is the line thing, but Alienware supposedly tweeted that they're looking into getting the screens from another supplier so hopefully the line issue will be fixed. But even with the lines, same thing again to the 4K screen, you don't really notice it unless face is very close to the screen or unless you're just staring at a lot of big blocks of solid colors. But going back to my 60hz displays, it feels really laggy after getting used to the 120hz. When in game, the smoothness is something you can consistently feel vs the initial wow factor of an ultra sharp 4K game that you don't really notice anymore while actually playing.

Some will strongly disagree with me and that's fine, but that's my honest opinion from using the 2. If the 120hz screen didn't exist I would pick a 1080p screen despite being able to see the pixels. Scaling will work plus games are much easier to run. And at a 15 or 17 inch screen 2 feet away, I won't see a huge visual difference during active gaming.
