Hello, I have a pretty simple question. I have an Alienware 17 R4 with a 6700hq and a GTX 1070, I am having some issues with my current power supply. It gets very hot when my PC is under load and during heavy gaming sessions it will stop charging my device resulting in significant performance loss. I wanted to buy a new one but I noticed that they sell different versions depending on the Video card in the system. I plan on upgrading my Motherboard in the future to a i9-8950hk and a GTX 1080. So should I just buy the 330w power supply? Will a 330W power supply hurt my current system that only uses an i7 GTX 1070? Will the 330w power supply be more reliable than the 240w one?

First: The 330watt power supply won't hurt your notebook. It gets detected in bios as a 330 watts one.
Second: Might be. Logically it should but you neber know. The less load a power supply needs to supply the highet is the chance it might survive a longer time in my opinion.

No, not at all. The system will only pull as much power as it's designed to pull, you won't hurt it at all.

Not necessarily. They do offer two different brands though, and I find that the Delta electronics PSU's were more reliable then the other ones ( liteon, I think? ).

If your looking at moving to a 8950hk and GTX1080 down the road then your better off getting the 330w now vs buying two PSU's and the 240w is no good on the new config.
