So I am currently looking at the 17 r4 with 7820hk and either the 1070 or 1080 graphics,
but I am trying to figure out if any configuration has a working mux switch to allow the Intel Graphics to work (for better battery life when not able to plug in). I am not trying to game on battery, just get better battery life for regular work stuff. (I know it reboots, that is completely ok)

From everything I have read here and talking to Dell, the G-sync units do NOT in anyway allow switching,
but can anyone confirm that there Kaby Lake cpu and some combination of GPU / Screen (non G-gync) allows it?

In theory the F7 key (mux switch) should allow it for non G-sync screens (FHD or UHD)
I have not found a definitive answer in the forum.. a few that look like it might work... maybe.
I would also take working hybrid mode but really just want to use the Intel Graphics for light duty when on battery.

Thanks for any confirmation for working or not working.
Please let me know what the cpu/gpu/screen combo is if possible.

I know the MSI GT73VR has a working switch, if the Alienware 17 R4 does not work at all does anyone have other suggestions?

If you use a non-gsync panel then both Optimus and the F7 mux switch both work correctly :)
I have a 15r3 but it should work the same way for the 17r4 too.

Thanks draxen, in theory the 17 r4 should do it too...just would like confirmation from a 17 r4 owner before I spend the money to buy one.
Dell sales say "none of there current laptops can", but didn't really believe them as I have been told the before that the 15r3 did work.

Still looking for confirmation from a 17 r4 owner please Thanks!

yes you can switch between optimus and dgpu only on FHD and UHD models.
