hi, has anyone done a repaste on cpu and gpu?
I had a chat with dell tech support earlier from the UK. he said warranty will be void if i have to do it on my own plus they dont call a tech agent out just for a repaste. they can changed the heatsink and repaste it but not doing the repaste only. as far as i know repasting is essential to keep cpu cool and repasting is at least once a year meaning ill ask dell for a new heatsink every year to get a repaste?

frack their warranty policy!

The person you spoke with is a moron and doesn't know what he is talking about. He is either ignorant or lied to you because it does not void the warranty. Just repaste the thing and never tell them you did. Since they are blatantly lying to you, if they ask if you have done anything to the machine yourself just return the favor, say you have not, and then you won't have to worrying about dealing with stupid brain-dead Dell EMEA staff refusing to cover a legitimate warranty claim.

JHC!!! you have to go through all that JUST TO GET TO THE LOUSY FANS???
This is why the R1s are just plain better.
EDIT: WOW! The dude doesn't even clean the CPU and GPU before applying the new heatsinks!Last edited: Aug 3, 2015Mr. Fox likes this. -

Wow, that is absolutely nuts. I couldn't finish watching it... it was making me upset watching all of the rigmarole that is required to work on that thing. The obnoxious shrieking "music" was certainly a good fit for how that is put together, though. It was kind cool sounding for about a minute or two. I kept expecting it to change at some point. After it looped however many dozens of times before I stopped watching was more than enough... I think I am going to have trouble sleeping tonight... the audio equivalent of staring into a mercury vapor strobe light.

bloody hell.. did dell do this on purpose? making it difficult to clean the fan and repaste cpu/gpu plus crap bios for more heat then forcing us to buy a new laptop after 2 years or so.. WTF is this.. this makes me want to return this laptop and get a refund.. T_T
so anyone got any idea about dell warranty for this laptop.. repaste on your own voids warranty? or might just ask a new heatsink every year to get a repaste done.. is that possible? hahaha -
How can you imagine them able to detect a repasting job
With my m17x r3 they changed the graphic card for nothing it was just a screen issue.
Just never they say you did something of course -
Looks like you need to remove 20+ screws just for fan access. With the R1s it's just 5 screws - 2 for the cover and 3 for the fan.

True that it i
That is not cover I guess and harder to dissimulate.
This is really a stupid design I use to clean the cooling system once a year on my previous m17x and it was fast and easy. -
so guyz since its not part of the warranty ill just probably get a extended warranty and wait for it to break then dell can replace.. guess thats the only option.. T_T

We
It is the french version I do not know if it is the same in your country.
They said that they will not cover
-The normale wear
- damage caused by software others than those that come with the laptop (funny)
-volontary damage
-negligence
So if you break during repasting it is volontary damage but if it breaks alone because of dirty fan it is negligence
No seriously unless you break obviously something how can they know you repasted?
They will not do perform analysis to prove that you change the paste and by the way they probably don't have a clue of what kind of paste is used in their chinese factory.
As long as you are sure to be able to do it properly i would not worried.
If you break something during the dismounting that is another story of course.Last edited: Aug 4, 2015 -
