I know this topic has come up several times but the more I read and research the more I get confused, so I'm asking for your opinion on what should I do:
I will purchase a new 17 r3, I decided to go for the top spec option and the only component I have a conflict with is the display, the price difference in México, from the 4k screen is about 100 usd so is not a factor.
Some things to consider, I'm and Architect I will use this computer mainly for work, (sketchup, Acad, Lumion 6 and Twinmotion and post processing in Adobe PS, the usual exel / word email work). and for casual gaming, now I know there will be some scaling issues, so I want to know if upscaling to 1080p delivers good results and all the reviews raving about how good the colors and the option to go full 4k when possible is worth the hassel.
thank you in advance for your informed opinions and forgive my poor English, second language and all.

I don't own a 4K machine but I know a few that do, given the programs you say you'll be using I think you'll definitely benefit from the 4K panel. Scaling, whilst not perfect, is getting better from what I hear and most likely worth a bit of messing around.
@iunlock has a 4K machine, I'm sure he'll be able to provide some positive input here

Hola Juan,
Definitely opt for the 4k screen for your usage. I personally don't run anything at 4k even though I have a 4k screen, however, having the 4k screen does bring about a lot of benefits for when I am editing content (photography and video.) When I game I also game at 1080 sometimes, but mostly at 1440p. As for the scaling issues that is mentioned by some, I can you tell with confidence that I have had ZERO issues whatsoever with the 4k screen. Windows runs perfect, icons look great and there is no distortion of any images.
The 4k panel is one of, if not the best in the industry on a 17" laptop. It really is nice to work on. The screen is very bright as well. -
FOr professional use the $K screen is the way to go. Better color gamut, better color accuracy, better contrast.

Don't forget the ICC profile I made for the 4K matte. It'll further improve the Delta E color accuracy. (YMMV) -

Thank you all for your quick Reply! This is exactly the reassurance I was looking forward to! I will proceed with the purchase and will post back to give my own impression that it may help fellow members with the same predicament!
