Hey guys and gals, i have an Alienware 17 R5 i am about to do some upgrades on. I am looking for a part number for the ribbon cable needed to swap FROM a standard 4 zone keyboard, part number 18JFN to the per-key keyboard, part number 44RC9. I currently have the per-key keyboard set aside, i just need the cable and part number to find and order one.
From what i have gathered, i do not use the cables from the original keyboard (i dont know if they are built in to the keyboard itself, they appear to be and i did not take any pics or take note when i repasted) and i see the per key 44RC9 has different ribbon cables and different connectors utilized.
If anyone has done this before please let me know, alternatively some shots of a 17 R5 WITH the per-key keyboard connected would also help if i have do try this blind; it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any input!
For those who care, it is the i9 8950HK with GTX 1080 and 1440P Gsync 120hz display. I am about to replace the heatsink and fan assembly with a larger, thicker, solid copper unit that also covers the PCH to help lower temps, as well as switch to Conductonaut with a barrier of 3M electrical tape and standard thermal paste to prevent any leakage as well as oxidation of the liquid metal. I already use throttlestop and have a 140mv undervolt in place, i currently run it at 3.6Ghz all-core and see temps up to mid 70's, so i am hoping with liquid metal, larger monolithic CPU/GPU/PCH heatsink, repad, and throttlestop, i can again clock it to 4Ghz and not worry about repasting for the duration of its lifespan.
I had previously rebalanced and repasted this machine with great success using Gelid GC Extreme paste, brought CPU temps down from 99c (throttling) on cores 0 and 2 at only 3.5Ghz gaming (AC Odyssey) to 80c on cores 0 and 2 at 4Ghz gaming (AC Odyssey), yet recently the temps have begun to creep back up on cores 0 and 2, and PCH temps get fairly high, so i figure while i'm in there, may as well swap out the keyboard while i'm at it.
The PCH gets fairly hot as i use this machine a lot for photo editing and video rendering, mostly RAW image batch processing, and also gaming. i replaced the primary boot NVME with a 960 Evo 1TB, second NVME is an Intel 660P 2TB, and 3rd hdd has been swapped out for an 850 Evo 2TB SSD, a project might mean batching 50GB of RAW 4K images which may take 3-4 hours depending on what is needed/done, moving 200+ GB of data from one drive to another etc, and PCH temps get pretty high. The NVME drives have passive heatsinks on them already and are not thermal throttling. I have the machine elevated with 1" feet at all times.
Alienware 17 R5 - Has anyone successfully swapped 4 zone keyboard to per-key RGB?
