    Good info Rei !!!

Please how K5PRO looks after disassembly, especially after longer time? Could not find any info/nor videos on it. I expect it to be like silicone for windows, hoping it gets harder than toothpaste.
Also, when removing does it come off in one piece or much cleaning is needed?

I have been completely ignoring K5PRO, basically making fun of it, but after reading that YOU use it (always good posts) I consider it to be a good solution. THX

Already ok? I have i7 8750h 4.1hz, if i use load test in aida64 processor and video card together my processor has 3.2hz. Without video card 3.6hz about.

I have experience with k5pro after one month, after disassembly k5pro look good how thermal paste. But if you want clean your plate i think it will be some problem, because it is paste.

Thanx, so there was clearly contact between heatsink and components after disassembly?

I mean K5 PRO did not 'melt away' and lose contact?

Not, contact was good, i put normal size this gel. If you want faster disassembly k5pro good choice but if you has free time you can put thermal pad. My choice is k5pro

After time it becomes like window silicon indeed, but a little but less viscous. Every time I remove my heatsink it reminds me of that gum you can use to measure/check fitment.

Because it becomes a gum like structure, the cleaning up process is very straightforward. They come loose like big pieces of gum and if everything was compressed well, you can re-use it with a small fresh layer applied to let it cure to the right fitment of your heatsink.

It has been doing me well since I've got my 17 R4 and now with the R5 I was able to eliminate VREL on the GPU completely.

Now with this new heartsink I have to rebalance it again and apply K5 to keep my VRM Temps down again.

Your voltages probably. Are you running static voltage or adaptive, what is your undervolt, and which components did u undervolt (core, cache, system agent etc..)

Is OC turned on in the bios, what are your powerlimits HWinfo measures and what are your temps/benchmark voltage your CPU pulls

Are you using K5Pro on all components? Previously i was convinced that its better to use K5Pro on components that are not that critical to cool but on VRMs (all black ones) to use good thermal pad (because it has way better thermal conductivity than K5Pro) but now im thinking maybe to just use K5Pro on all components because precise fitment way more important than thermal conductivity (with those thermal pads you need to find perfect fit so it compress enough to make good contact with components but at the same time not causing bad contact with GPU and CPU dies). You eliminated VREL issue on GPU but does any of your CPU cores drops to 800 Mhz occasionally? I believe it happens when there is bad contact with CPU VRMs not completely sure though.

Hello my friend, I think better use k5pro on all components, because original pads was more bad. For This laptop k5pro it is good, this laptop has to much pads. it is my opinion.

I saw that post of yours. Im not sure if im doing something wrong but ive tried different pads and pastes but i always get occasion drops to 800 Mhz on my CPU mostly at idle state. When on load it stays at max. Thats why i asked @Rei Fukai if he was able to get rid of those drops.

This is a normal behavior in idle. Intel has different "enviroment/ power-saving" settings for this behavior and you can disable it if you want. The settings are:

    - Intel SpeedStep (enable/ disable over TS or BIOS)
    - Intel SpeedShift (enable/ disable over TS)
    - check windows power settings (balance, battery, max perfomance mode)
    - check AWCC fan profil

Do you guys tighten screws with this heatsink all the way? Im afraid to crack dies if i tighten them all the way because when im screwing them it feels like a lot of pressure comparing to original one.

Yes I am bro, the places where there used to be pads, are all replaced with K5-Pro. Sorry I did not see your comment.

All the way down, just tight it until you'll feel the screws exert some drag. That way you'll know if your screw reached the end of it's thread. Stripoing these tiny screws is done in an instant.

Is this heatsink still available? How can i get one please? I tried everything but even at stock 2.9ghz on cpu, LM and k5pro all round, pch and nvme's heatsinks, coolpad, etc, gpu locked at 1500mhz, temps not exceeding 75 on cpu, 70 on gpu, 70 on pch I still get crashes after about an hour play :( this is the last resort so if this does not help I am going to throw it away :((

P.S.: undervolt on cpu, undervolt on gpu, LM on cpu, kryonaut on gpu, the whole nine yards. My test is nfs heat full details plus prime95. It holds about an hour and then crash even if nothing goes beoyond 75C

It doesn't seem to be a temperature related issue. So i would not search the problem in the heatsink.

Any ideas are welcome but it seems weird. Meanwhile I have to find a way to keep the temps under 75 :(

    Hi there,

I'm interested in buying a 17 r5 but I know the original heatsink just does not do the job.

How well does this new heatsink cooling these models? It will basically sell me on this laptop depending on how well it does

I am useing this heatsink with 17R5. My original heatsink had not good contact with CPU and i had 96 degrees always. But after buy this heatsink my CPU feeling better. Maybe original heatsink was defective but with new heatsink better. This heatsink very fat and need more time for heat this cooper.

I got one of these for my 17 R4 finally. Only had Hydronaut at hand, but so far I'm quite happy with it as it's a marked improvement over the stock one in this heat. Plus, I like how it also cools the chipset, as well.

I'll see how it runs in the long term, but I guess I should have ordered it a long time ago.
