    Hello Guys!

I'm working with Cicichen in order to have this Heatsink (NO WATER-COOLER) for the Alienware 17 R5 (8950HK+GTX1080).

Who would be interesting on getting it?

I will let him know at the end of the week.

I belive both HS are kind the same just one of the CPU arms is different, but it is possible to make it compatible as you can see on ebay you can find the R5 adapter for R4.

200 is pretty steep, but I'd potentially be interested depending on cost and performance increases. I love this laptop other than the struggle with heat.

I'm the same, the heat is such a pain, handle all that stress is difficult for both CPU & GPU.

Hope to have the design soon so I can try it.

FWIW, I would definitely be interested (for 17R4 7820HK+GTX1080)... Hopefully it would be possible to mill out screw holes for both 17R4 and 17R5 layouts, assuming they're different?).

It would be great if the heatsink on this machine was capable of, you know, sinking the heat from both chips (180W + 45W TDP for that processor/gpu combo). I know that running both chips at 100% is unusual, but some games definitely get close....

    edit: typo

Thank you for taking the time to get this built

You could buy the heatsink, and drill a hole yourself. Just make sure the Thread of the screw is not interfering with the copper of the heatsink, so it will only be tightened on the mobo itself, not in the heatsink.
The only major difference between the R4 and R5 heatsinks are the position of the top screw located on the CPU side.

Hi, really? The only difference between the two heatsinks is that hole? Interesting... I think I need to do some searches before, but thanks for the information!

edit. I looked at some pics and yes, the only difference is the upper hole that is more central in the R4 and a bit on the right on the R5. The problem is that I think that I can't drill a new hole in this heatsink because the hole that I need could not be on the copper plate, but a little more over (higher). I probably need to do some measurements because, maybe, in the R5 the hole is not only more on the right but also in an higher position...

edit2. Basically I need to know if the new hole (see the attachment) should be in the blue spot (A) position or in the red (B) spot position, because in the second case there's no copper to drill...

If i'm not mistaken, there where people that made some kinda adapter for the heatsink so it realligns the CPU arm again to the Middle. It was an adapter for people that wanted to use an R5 heatsink, on an R4 AW.
Imma try google and see what i can come up with.

So I'm interested, but I'm struggling to see how this will improve things. The heatpipes look to be the same size. Is it just a matter of the larger copper plate providing better contact?

I can see they provide new thermal pads... But is there any instruction to know where to place the pads? Also the original heatsink had 3 diffrent thickness pads. I will buy one for sure if we can get a 8% improvement.

    Thanks

It also looks like (in the pictures at least) that the surface of the heatsink is super rough still from machining, so if someone gets this, I would be prepared to polish/sand it down a bit to get a better surface before mounting.

It's called lapping and is a fairly easy process.
I always go to @Mr. Fox YouTube channel as he is the most reliable source for anything regarding tuning up a pc. So here's the link: this video will teach you all the good bits for the best results.

    There you go!

Pending the benchmarks, but normally the computer was on 85c°-98c° on regular loads by using the Performance Profile, with the new HS is under 65 to 75, for me is just perfect, well there are only to improvements that CICICHEN can do to the Heatsink and I have already send it to him.

Please let me know what benchs do you want me to perform.

I have had a lot of insane work in my current job, even weekends, but I will take the time to do it.

Humm ok but you have more detail like what paste you used and what frequency you run your processor?

With the OEM HS @ 4 Ghz -0.140 mv in heavy gaming i'm around 79c in balance mode and liquid metal.

I will receive my Cicichen HS today! I Will have picture and screen shot before and after during stress test.
