hi there, was just curious how well win7 would work on my laptop, since its running a 6700hq. win10 works fine, for now, but ive often wondered if gaming or general stability would be better on win7. would drivers that work on win10 work on 7? or would i have to hunt down specific drivers? Not planning on reinstalling windows anytime soon, but if win10 gives me any issues in future like it did with 1709, id be seriously considering a switch.

Reverting to Windows 7 really isn’t worth discussing. It’s severely out dated at this point and lacks the functionality and capabilities of 8 and 10.

There are no more service packs or feature updates and Microsoft will soon stop providing security updates.

There’s really no need at all to even consider it. If you need 7 for some reason just run it as a VM with limited or no internet connection.

so im stuck with win10 and its constant feature updates then, thats disappointing. if only there was a version of 10 that didnt require the feature updates but kept up the security updates, only version i know of that does that is enterprise LTSB, but its not available to normal ppl like me

You can change the frequency of feature updates if that’s your concern.

MS has basically set it up so this will be the last major OS release and they’ll continue to update it and upgrade it as time goes by. It’s a totally different approach than anything they’ve done before and it’s a good thing imho.

    Oh. I forgot.

You can also totally take ownership of the software distribution folder and set it to read only. That'll prevent updates too. I've never actually run a system with that tweak made for more than a couple of months so i have no idea what kind of adverse effects this can cause, so please proceed at your own risk.

ty for the info, im running 1803 currently, which is working fine for now, but before, when 1709 came out, dunno if it was my machine in particular, but it kept randomly freezing the display, forcing me to close and open the lid to fix it (providing u have it set to do nothing when lid is closed) which got annoying fast. im just concerned something like that will happen again in future feature updates. just wish feature updates could be turned off completely, defering them works, but then if u dont install them eventually, the current version will get a point of End of support, like win7 will in 2020.
