I was checking DELL's website constantly for the past month to get a sale on the 17 R4 with a UHD panel. There was always an option for the UHD IPS panel for the GTX 1080 version (it's the one that's $2,549.99 currently). However, today I noticed that selection is gone yet it still shows up for the other configurations that have other GTX 10 series. There's even another option with comes with a UHD panel and GTX 1080 but it's more expensive (around $3,699.99) and lower specifications can't be selected.

Does DELL change what options are available on a laptop due to the stock of parts and if so, when can I expect them to restock? IS it because of the current sale? Do the configurations change back to normal after a sale?

Or does the version I want no longer supports UHD panels? I don't think it's the latter since I clearly remember it having the option and if the $3,699.99 version has it, why wouldn't the cheaper version have the option?

Nobody except Dell knows why they do the things they do. They've done that for a few models. I've had models where I could select the 4K w/ 1060 and not 1070.

I checked today and the option is back. I think it's because they ran out of stock and the laptops that did have it were pre-built. Anyway I'm going to close this thread.

In the UK they removed the UHD option months ago citing that the combination of the top processor/gpu and UHD was causing overheating problems. So they removed the UHD to stop this happening.

I guess they did the same for the US store. I did contact dell and they said that if I have any issues I should send it back for repairs but no mention of the problem being fixed which is concerning. It is back though and I may get it and post any issues on a different post.
