I think that the differences should be very close btw 17r4 and 15r3 so :

Ok, so from what i saw cpu performances are better, but graphics performances are worst.
    15r3 with kryonaut repast
    6700hq - 150 mV
    1070 ( + 210 core / + 190 memory ) (micron)
    16gb

Globally temps didn't changed, just 1 or 2 degrees less for CPU
But Cinebench scores are a bit better : before i had in average 675cb.
    With the 0.12 i did 8 test one after the other : 680 678 681 683 684 685 685 683
    So it's pretty good.

In fact, the ratio for core 1,2 and 3 had been raised. Now we can have all the core at 3,5Ghz...
EDIT : I was wrong, as @Papusan said, i though that only because of too low refresh rate from hwinfo, which then display wrong current value x35 simultaneous to all 4 cores which is impossible with the 6700hq...

Side of it, power has been raised too. Before it was at about 33W in full load. While the test it reached 40W now.

But i did 3 fire strike test, and i loosed 200 point. Before i had 14250, now i have 14050. Combined test is a bit better, but graphic test score is worst...

I'm not sure if vbios has been updated, but may be. If someone have info about it ?

EDIT : Idle power has been decrease, now when the cpu isn't in charge, it consum about 4W. Which is great for running time on the battery

Bad point, it looks like fans curv is lower than with the 1.0.9 so it warm a lot more...

My 6820HK idles at 1.5w, you're not optimizing the system enough.

Yeah sure, i have too much apps running in background.
What are the advantages to disable turbo boost except the consumption ?

anybody upgraded and actually had a decent boost to firestrike etc ? will test tonight.

I am explicitly talking about the GTX 1080 model which had wattage throttling. @Pete Light @Cerreta28 are you able to test this both, as i know you also have the 1080

Why can't you download and flash the bios yourself for test purpose? Just go into Dell's support site and download the file  Don't use other as the Guinea Pig

Lol yeah, for info on the 15r3 with 1070, the power has been raised a bit.
Before the max power i recorded was 120W, now with the new bios, i recorded 125W...

i flashed the latest bios yesterday, other than a rise in cpu temps, i dont see any other improvements. and im not even sure if the 180W GPU unlock is part of this firmware because i ran firestrike, played games, i still cant get anywhere near 180W on stock clocks. there's also no improvements in firestrike GPU score.

CPU overheating already and they release a BIOS update to make it even worse? I still suspect that ISIS might have a controlling post in Dellienware :D

just a quick update, i tried more games last night, and in one of the games, i can actually get 190W on GPU power. some are 170W. but most of the games hover around 155W+-.

what's iunlock's and team LHZ's take on the new firmware? they seemed rather quiet with this firmware release.

I had problems with the last bios 1.0.12 (17r4 Skylake 6820) I take off speed in the ssd (10% or 5% depending what test i do) and increased the temperature of my CPU.

Frank Azor tweeted to Deex the 180W 1080 firmware is coming before the end of this month. we have no confirmation whether BIOS 1.10.12 is indeed the 180W Azor promised.

anybody else think the fan tables are crap on this latest bios ? by crap i mean running the CPU + GPU up to higher temps before fans kick in.

If i was to downgrade bios is that risky ? could it brick the mobo? has anybody else gone back to 1.0.9?

My CPU temps increased after the BIOS update. Higher and differential has increased too. What's the max FAN rpm you guys get?

so it isnt just me. my core differential issue is more prominent than before and max cpu temps increased as well, though still below thermal throttling limits OC at 4GHz

still no comments on BIOS 1.0.12 from team LHZ who are in contact with dell engineers? they used to be quite vocal on previous BIOS releases, but rather quiet this time around.

Fan tables are the worse I have ever seen in a laptop, they are way too slow to react during a load/heat increase.

Will you be staying on this release ? i think i will be patient and await a newer release of the bios. My guess is downgrading is more risky than upgrading bios?

Completely normal from Dell. It has been like this since Dell's first Haswell models (with full socket hardware). Complaining did not help. No one could run oc'd Haswell Extreme in bench without using liquid metal and Hwinfo64. Dellienware's engineers recommend we should use 3rd party software like Hwinfo fan control. The fan profiles in my Aw 17 was never fixed!!

I don't think that there is an additional risk in downgrading (compared to upgrading). I am still below throttling values but with the new profile it runs much hotter before fans start to kick in.

    *WARNING TO ALL*

I have just downgraded by bios and nearly s**** myself.

The laptop after it was restarting went into a black screen state i had to force shut it down in the end, i think i nearly bricked it and would advise against anybody doing the re flash unless they have Dell Warranty.

There might an issue with the latest bios then, I downgraded at least 10 time when I was testing 1.0.2, 1.0.6 and 1.0.8 without any issues.

What have you been downgrading to?
I am getting that exact scenario when I am up- / downgrading to v1.0.9.
So my bet is on a strange v1.0.9 rather than a messed up 1.10.12 - at least regarding the flashing procedure.
