I was wondering if this new usb type-c monitor from Asus (mb169c+) is compatible with the AW 17 R3. It's supposed to receive displayport signal through usb type-c, but on the asus site they only quote very few compatible laptops (even though no drivers are needed). On the other hand, on the Dell website, it's clearly stated that the thunderbolt 3 port on the R3 transmits displayport signal (but the port does not have the official "displayport alternate mode" logo/print). Does anyone have any idea if this monitor will work with my laptop?

    Thank you,

    John

Thanks for the links. I think you are talking about the MB169B+ and not about the MB169C+. The "C" model is the one described as a "no drivers" monitor on the asus website. It also mentions "displayport alternate mode" which is true displayport signal through usb-c. The main reason I'm interested about the C model, is because it won't use CPU resources, since it's not using the displaylink method, like other usb monitors do. I think the C model is like a traditional monitor. The question is, if the Alienware can transmit DP signal through the usb-c port, and if it is, then why is it not listed as a compatible device on the asus website (maybe marketing trick to promote only asus laptops?).

I think the USB-C port on the ALienware can handle display port signals though. Because they removed the native display port on the back of the laptop compared to the previous models.

Hi! I just bought this monitor and I thought that using a usb-c to usb-a cable would transmit the image to my macbook pro, which is not true. Do you know if I buy one usb-c -> hdmi cable it will be possible to share images on the screen?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi John

Did you ever end up purchasing this screen? I also own a laptop with a thunderbolt usb c port, but that isn't listed upon asus' short list of compatible laptops, and was wondering if there was any reason it wouldn't work.

    Thanks
