So I have been waiting about 2 almost 3 weeks. My status has been stuck at "in production". Now today my orders estimated delivery time got delayed by a month!! Not impressed. I called in the support was alright, but they said something about short on parts, which seems to be a dell goto excuse... after some searching online.
I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing delays?
My build is:
Any past experiences welcome and anything to get my mood back up
- 16GB RAM
- 128ssd +1tb
- 980m vram: 8GB
- 4k screen
-
My order is in production too. It has stayed there about 3 days, and the estimated delivery day is on 2/2/2016. What is your estimated delivery day, @XenTol ?

Ordered last week due to arrive today, specs in sig.

... Well I will see how the coming days go to see if anything changes, lots of horror stories online with delays from dell/alienware - mostly for the graphic amps though. Just so you know I did not get the amp port nor the amplifier... If nothing happens in this week I will probably be getting off the alienware train ...
I will update in a few days, Thank you all.Last edited: Jan 26, 2016 -
-4K UHD Screen
-16GB Ram
-I7 6700HQ
-980M 8GB
-512GB SSD + 1TB HDD
It seems all orders come with 980M 8GB are delayed. I really don't mind if they delay my order for 2 weeks, as long as when I receive the machine, it must be flawless . And good luck to you too. -

My experience was approximately the same. Here's what I think is going on. All of the machines are built to order. Even the bottom of the range models (my 17 R2 is dead stock cheapest mode - no special options at all) must go through the workflow process. If the company is experiencing more orders, production will take longer. Regardless, there is a certain amount of production overhead no matter what your order is.
The second thing at work is that Dell is just maddeningly slow to ship things. You can order identical products from Dell and Amazon and the item from Amazon will arrive 2 weeks sooner. But, to be fair, Amazon is a highly optimized logistics company and Dell is not.
My R2 was in production and never even showed shipped. It just showed up one day about a week early! I was very happy! Strangely, I got an email the next day saying the machine had shipped and was scheduled to show up in 3 days. An irritating thing is that, even after 3 support calls, my service tag nor express code were not recognized at the Dell support website.
Be patient, it'll arrive and you'll be glad! I just love my machine! It is absolutely the best made and fastest computer (laptop or desktop) I have ever owned or used despite the fact that I have been using computers for 30+ years (I'm old - 62) and I worked for IBM for several years. I could have bought a business-class computer with similar capabilities but I am still a kid at heart and I really liked the look of the thing.
I've had this R2 just short of a year and I was going to pop for a newer model, but now I am going to wait until the new memory architecture, 3D XPoint (called CrossPoint - awkward huh?) from Intel is available. If you haven't read about it, you should take a look at this:
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us...echnology/3d-xpoint-technology-animation.html
This is going to change the performance of computers dramatically! And best of all, if you watched the video and noticed the emphasized benefits, it is going to be cheap! It is 1,000 times faster than NAND (used in SSD's) and fast enough to be system memory AND it is NON-VOLATILE!
Imagine that! It means that there will be one common pool of memory with essentially a limitless amount of memory for the processor. And, the machine state will always be available so, after the initial start, restarts should be nearly instantaneous. Plus, ALL memory and storage will be on high-bandwidth busses which will significantly lower processor wait times meaning a substantial boost in throughput.
3D XPoint is a real disruptive technology, I think that the engineering samples are already out there because the release date for the technology is reportedly 2016 although it might not be a consumer product for some time.
Another technology that is interesting but the company is still seeking startup funding is Nantero and its NRAM product. This memory is made from carbon nanotubes. Large-scale production of nanotubes might hold this up for a bit of time.
I realize this falls into the categories of "off-topic" and "tl;dr" but I think it is nonetheless interesting. Don't you?Last edited: Jan 27, 2016sphinxx likes this. -

Maybe a little off topic but i want to order an r3 from dell. How are you guys able to configure your laptops. On the site all the specs are locked in with no way to change. They all only offer 8gb ram and 1080 screen. I want 16gb ram and 4k screen but cant change it.
