    Hi everyone,

    I have an Alienware 17 R3 with 980m and 4k screen.

Have you ever tried to use the USB Type to an external monitor to get 120hz or even 144hz?

My monitor was not detected.. :(

I haven't seen the setup yet, but I do know of some adapters and even monitors that can get their signal through. Not specifically on Alienware though.

As far as i know whatever monitor you plug in to a laptop w optimus it uses the igpu instead of the nvidia/dgpu. So its not possible unless you got a gt72 w manual switchable graphics or a sager w out optimus e.g 750dm

I believe I read that external displays plugged in only use the NVidia card? Optimus or no Optimus, it depends on where the display ports are wired to.
