    Hello,

So i purchased my machine around either the end of August or September. I've used it about maybe 10 times but to justify the cost i'm starting to use it alot more.

    Specs:
Alienware 17 R2 (System Sku says Alienware 15 though)
    Windows 10 Home
    i7-4720HQ @ 2.60 GHz
    8GB RAM
    Nvidia 970M

The intermittent issues that i run into are:
About 75% of the time when my system is finished booting into windows it freezes. I can still move the mouse cursor but i can't open anything. Hitting Ctrl + Alt + Del allows me to bring up the task manager -SOMETIMES- but even when i'm able to bring it up - ending a task on a program doesn't close it.

This doesn't always happen on startup. This randomly happens hours after using my laptop as well and even when waking it up from sleep.

After my machine locks up i end up having to do a hard reset. Whenever i log back into windows afterwards it says that it's finished installing updates. (Every time i restart??)

Other times when i boot everything runs fine but for about 1 second my left fan will blow as hard as it can, stop, and then for 1 second the right fan blows as hard as it can and then stops. I'm sure this is some sort of "check" it does because it doesn't do it again.

Other times my mouse cursor locks up but i can left/right click and use alt + tab to navigate for about 2-3 minutes and then i can move the cursor again.

So, the intel driver update utility showed me that there's a new display driver available for windows 10. However - it states that "A customized computer manufacture driver is installed on your computer" and that the update utility won't install it.

Performed an automatic scan on AW's driver & support section and it states that the only drivers that are available are for my BIOS (Which i'm pretty sure i already installed) and my Qualcomm LAN Killer..

    Any ideas?

uninstall the drivers and download the latest from intel, also for your chipset, the lastest from nvidia and the latest from killer on their website.

I had a similar issue in the past with another laptop. It was an issue with the drivers and my ssd. I remember I fixed it with installing new intel chipset drivers.

The Intel update actually rendered my killer wifi useless. The only way to fix it was to perform a system restore. I did however update my Nvidia drivers so i'll report if this fixes my freezing issues.

    Update:
Yep, still happening. I can move the mouse but nothing is clickable. Started working after i performed a hard reset (It's very hit or miss)

Event viewer showed this under "Warnings" at the same time my computer froze.

"\Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\PNP0A0A\2&daba3ff&2"

It also showed a couple of things under Critical but after reading up on it it looks like it's logging the times that i had to power it down after it freezing.

All Windows 10 updates are installed..

Did a scan for malware and it's showing 2 instances of "PUP.Optional.WebWatcher" which i'm removing now. I doubt that it's effecting anything though.

i think it is a similar issue as what i had. I had a similar error message. Before installing drivers, please uninstall every driver you want to reinstall and also delete it from the system manager by clicking the dvice with your right mouse button and select uninstall.
