I have the 4710HQ GTX980M AW17 R2 which supports 32gb ram. However, this laptop only has 2 slots. I saw this ram upgrade in amazon (16gb single DDR3L) that might work. Has anyone tried this on alienware 17 r2? I know other manufacturer sell this 16gb single ram.

Actually, Edwardz was asking about the 17 R2 which is DDR3 ram.
Edwardz, I have the same AW17R2 as you and I've been tempted to try 32GB, especially since Amazon has a great return policy. Everyone says you can't do 32GB in this version, even Crucial's website, but they also said my 2006 E1705 only supported 4GB in the two slots, and I bought 8 and it worked. So as soon as I can spare the cash I will try it. I did see a post where someone said it worked, and the specs say it will. BTW, get the matched set, not two singles. Mushkin and one other manufacturer make DDR3 1600 pairs in 32GB but that are between $400-$500 which is looney. So Crucial is the way to go. If you try it, post back!
