I just bought an Alienware 15R2. Specs are: i7 6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD+1TB HDD, UHD touch true-life (3840x2160) 350 nits screen and GTX 980M. Overall it seems a nice configuration.

However, the screen is just horrible. It has a very pronounced warmness/yellowish-tint and it is quite dull overall (in spite of being 350nits). FHD on my Asus ultrabook seems so much better. And, so do the screens on many other laptops old and new. Besides on 15r2, brightness seems to be falling off towards the edges. Browsing the forums it appears people have been having issues with their screens.

HWInfo tells me I have the following:
    Monitor Name: Sharp LQ156D1 (SHP1430)
    Monitor Name (Manuf): LQ156D1 [DELL P/N: T41VN]
Seems to be made in 2014!

Strangely, I have come across very few posts on the forums here (or on the interwebs) which mention SHP1430 or Dell P/N T41VN in the context of AW 15R2. People seem to be talking about other panels too. This left me wondering:
    • Have I received a particularly bad (and old) panel, which Dell put in very few units?
    • Is this a problem that Dell can fix? Or should I learn to live with it?
    • Is the IGZO 300 nits better than this 350 nits true-life touch panel? Should I ask Dell to put in that instead?
    • Are there ways to fix the tint issues with screen? Are there any pointers to any color profiles for particularly this screen? I searched a lot, but couldn't find any.
The screen issues and low nits are driving me nuts. I would appreciate any inputs.

Strange the 350 nits panel is rated as excellent in general. Try to calibrate it or google a color profile for that monitor. There should be profiles out there.

Or you can go to the intel control panel and add some blue, remove some green and red to even the colors out. Add some saturation as well. This screen is actually one of the best on the market so it should be a calibration issue.

Check the Dell Precision 7510 topic. Some of the UHD 7510 shipped with that panel (Sharp LQ156D1). I have a 7510 and I can see that dimming on the sides as well.
