Alienware 15 with 980m - Will It Support G-sync with WHQL Drivers?

It seems that this has been discussed but I can't nail down any concrete conclusions regarding Gsync compatibility with WHQL drivers. I want to buy an Acer XB270HU soon, but before I pull the trigger I was hoping somebody could help me out.

Gsync options are generally available through the control panel I believe, but seeing that the Control Panel in the Dell's are gimped, do those options show up once the Minidisplayport is connected to the monitor? Or will Gsync simply not work at this point in time? I remember reading a thread where Dell stated that they are working with Nvidia to open up fill driver options and I am not sure if I would need to wait for that to occur first.....
Or would modified drivers allow this functionality?

    Thanks for any help!

Dude, I have the exact same laptop and monitor on my desk...........Gsync will not work! I've tried and tried and none of the desktop options show up when connecting via minidp. From what I understand, no laptops that have optimus technology will work with gsync at the moment. On top of that, the highest refresh rate I could get from the 980m was 120Hz. I just wanted to bring that up since the XB270HU supports up to 144Hz. Your only option will be to buy the graphics amp and then use an external card to get all the features. What I did was decide to keep my desktop around to use the monitor to it's full potential since it would go to waste if I was only using the AW15 with it. I had an amp for a while and while it worked fine with gsync, it just made more sense for me to get rid of it and go back to a desktop/laptop combo.

G-sync requires the display link is connected straight to the nvidia GPU to allow communication between the monitor and GPU, so no it is not supported.

thats a bummer. Thank you for the responses.

So even when (if) nvidia and dell get the drivers fully functional, it won't make any difference in regards to G-sync.

You will be able to run it through monitors connected to the external GPU in the AMP.
