    Alienware 15 R3 2016 - Question on 1080P G-Sync & 4K IGZO Downscaling

Hello everyone. Does anyone actually have the new Alienware 15 with either the 1080P G-Sync or 4K IGZO display?

I basically have the following questions to those who have either of these panels.

    (A) How tolerable is the image quality of the TN panel on the 1080P G-Sync?

    (B) How well does the 4K IGZO downscale to 1080P? I recall reading that the new Alienware 17 has issues downscaling from 4K to 1080P. Blurriness and all. And hence would love to know if the new Alienware 15 suffers similar issues.

I'm currently using a Dell S2716DG 27" 144Hz G-Sync display on my desktop which too has a TN panel. But I did find a colour profile which along with a number of customizations made the display extremely pleasant to use.

I will say that once you've used a 144Hz G-Sync display, it's hard to go back. Even the Windows desktop is so much more pleasant to use. And from a gaming perspective you tend to notice tearing more than the IQ difference of TN vs IPS.

I am currently leaning heavily towards the 1080P G-Sync panel, but if I hear that the image quality is really beyond hope then I will consider the 4K IGZO panel IF it can downscale to 1080P without issues.

The 1080P G-Sync panel being 120Hz is also a big plus. And if I'm going to be gaming with a GTX 1070, I'd love to take advantage of those extra frames. Which there should be plenty of, especially when gaming at 1080P.

Thank you everyone for any feedback you're able to provide!~

I have the R3 15" IGZO IPS 4K panel and will run some tests shortly (Just got it yesterday, need time this weekend). Stay tuned...

I have some light bleeding issues and will be following up with Dell and one of my proposals might be for them to send me a new R3 with the 1080P G-Sync panel if the downscaling isn't good...

In Canada, it was just added as an option this week. 15" 1080P TN-WVA 120Hz G-Sync Panel. I think it's $50 less than the 4K panel upgrade...

But will this fit the R3 or just the R4?

In Canada, the New 15" is the R3. There is no 15" R4...

    I think the 17" is an R4

I up this thred because I'm interested in a AW 15 with a 1070. I would like to go for the 6820 and they dont offer the G sync 1080p screen with that CPU. So should I go for the UHD or simple FHD 60Hz ?
    Thanks guys

The FHD is a better option. Great things said about it. UHD seems to have more light bleed issues. That and it is better to game in FHD still.

Thanks, the FHD 120Hz G sync ( only available with the i7 6700) or better go for 6820 with FHD 60 Hz ?

I'm planning to buy a graphic amplifier with a GTX 1080 and a big screen at home and play on the go on the laptop

I would just wait for the 1080 version to come out in a few days. It will be faster than using a 1080 with the amp

I don't think there will be a GTX 1080 on the AW 15

Some of the models I was looking at are not letting me add the 120hz panel. Does it need a specific processor?

Not processor, it's locked to the MB which is a stupid decision imo.

    I think there's a way to order the 6820HK + gsync 120hz combo @DeeX
