I got my (SP)(A1) in the mail today, ebay 80 bucks, worth every penny it is sooooo much better. I highly recommend this display swap!

(I will admit though the yellow hue never fully goes away. Next to any other display in my house it is a warmer tone l have now accepted that that is how it is but the brightness is way better and the glossy kicks ass)

Yeah i can concur it has a pinky hue to the whites but it is pleasant and not yellow, your eyes easily adjust - looks more like the glossy film effect than anything

    Hey Guys,

I'm looking at a 4K Panel for my Alienware 15. i currently have the crappy 1080P panel, would it be a straight swap and would the R1 touchscreen one work with the R2? I'm thinking of buying the whole LCD assembley.

4K Worth thr upgrade over 1080p? seen theres a bew bios update to help windows 10 scaling, has that improved things?

    Hi,

A swap for the 1080 to the 4K panel is not as simple as just changing the panel I'm afraid, the 1080 panel is mounted at the top and bottom whereas the 4K panel is mounted at the sides. This means to swap the panels you'll also need the entire assembly including the lid, panel, bezel and of course, the 40pin eDP cable as the 1080 machine comes with a 30pin eDP cable and does not have the bandwidth to handle 4K resolution.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. Unless you happen to have a dead 4K machine available to you with an intact screen assembly then sourcing the parts will be too expensive in my opinion. Also, current mobile GPU's are not powerful enough to drive games at 4K (980m can just, forget about the 970m or below). Sure you'll get a few games to work but you'll have to drop quality settings down significantly to keep acceptable FPS whereas at 1080 you'll be able to max most settings and still have decent FPS.

The R1 touch screen (again, you'll need the whole assembly) may fit as I'm pretty sure there are minimal changes to the chassis going from R1>R2 however I don't know if the touch would work as that may require a separate cable and subsequent port that might not be found on the R2 motherboard. Worst case, It might be that the touch didn't work but the screen would be fine or, the touch signal is sent via the eDP cable (as some other laptops do) and all would function well.

As for the BIOS, I really don't see how a BIOS update improves Windows scaling, that is software and down to Microsoft to improve (somebody feel free to correct me on this!).

If I were you, I would just swap out your 1080 panel for a better one as many of us have here, any of the 2 below would be best:

    LG Philips LP156WF6 SPB1 (Matte)
    LG Philips LP156WF6 SPA1 (Glossy)

Those are effectively the same panel but either glossy or matte, they both have very good colour, they are bright and the response times are acceptable for gaming. A night and day difference over the stock panel.

    I hope that helps :)

Just got the AW15R2 and coming from M17X R2 (literally 5 years of inactivity). Got the panel swapped right away (took around 10 mins) and certainly love the glossy display (previously owned macbook pro).

Great pics, yeah the difference is that dramatic. i'm pretty damend pleased with the SPA1 - and very thankful i'm not on the 4k display. Had that display for a few weeks and found it too red as well as irritating to deal with in windows. Beneift is nill for 15 inch laptop - even 1080p is hidpi enough for me - and i have QHD samsung s7 and 20/20 vision.

I got a SHARP LQ156D1 with my 15r2 supposed to be 350 nit but not so bright and also is matte.

    yellowish tint as well.

You would figure for the highest upgrade of the screen you would get the best ?

Should I have gotten the Igzo dispay 300 nit?

A Dell Technician just came by and replaced my Samsung 156HL "4NDDJ" with a LG 156WF6 "KFKV0". The difference in warmness of the colors is stunning, and the LG appears to be brighter as well.

Thats not even a great panel they replaced it with tbh. That is the 220~250nits LG. You need to calibrate it to get some better colors out of it.
