I have compared the part layout and pin connector to the dell manual for display panel replacement

The 30 pin connector is in the right place, the mounting brackets look to be be correct.

The only possibility is that there is some sort of hardware or softare (bios) incompatibility with the screen, but i dont see why that would be the case considering this motherboard can drive a UHD 300 nit screen

fingers crossed, I was considering dropping 50£ on the screen as well, but I would rather not fish around quite yet inside the machine if someon else will be doing this first and can confirm it does or doesnt work

in addition I kind of want Dell to replace my current screen due to dead pixels instead of absolving them :)

I have ordered an LG FHD Panel from a supplier (300 Nits, Model LP156WF6) From a UK supplier for 50£ (2 year warranty). I'll be installing it in my laptop this week and can share the outcome.

Seems to be the best choice in the UK as i've discovered that suppliers, even when they advertise a part number, will ship whatever they have from the lots they recently bid on.

The whole industry is a bit of a sham, they advertise part numbers but will send "compatible" which means whatever the heck they have in stock, despite the advertised model number.

I confirmed with this supplier that they have the LG as their current "lot" of screens, which was rated by note book review as number 3 or so best panels for 2016 despite a bit lower color accuracy, so I'm going to give it a shot.

Please share your outcome. I just had dell replace my screen and to my dismay but not surprisingly the colors look exactly the same. They replaced it with the same dell part number samsung screen (the 220nit one). I also have the same backlight bleed as before, but what is strange is that it appears in the same spots as before. I did find a post on avs forum that had a way to fix backlight bleed by "messaging" the screen. Surprisingly it seemed to have help some but not gone entirely. I was contemplating doing the same as you and getting the LG 300 nit R1 display for $50 usd.

Can I ask which supplier you got this panel from? I'm in the UK. Is it the LG LP156WF6-SPB1? I'm trying to get a replacement panel for my Dell Inspiron 7559

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've been in contact with them. They claim most UK vendors have only the LP156WF4 panel in stock atm.

I'm still looking for the LG LP156WF6-SPB1 or one of the decent Samsung panels.

@nickbarbs Did you or anyone else replace the screen with the LG model 300 nit yet? I want to know if it is plug and play and your opinion as to how much the colors improved. Maybe you could take a picture of new one, I have the poor color FHD Samsung panel still.

I did. I can take a picture of the screen but I can tell you it is far brighter (50% brighter.) installation is very straight forward and it is plug and play. You only need to remove the screen bezel . colors are far better except for blue it looks a bit grainy but for my purposes it looks far better overall and is brighter so I'm fine with it. Don't do photo editing just gaming document work and movies. The whites are also cooler so I removed my calibration where red levels were lower and set it back to default.

If you can take some pictures that would be awesome! My FHD screen right now colors are meh and they dont pop or have that vibrancy. My wifes inspiron 2in1 IPS looks much better in all aspects which is BS if you ask me for what I paid.

    Hi, I'm using alienware 15 R1

Display colors are good, almost accurate, and brightness levels are pretty good 300nits, antiglare

the problem with this display is color banding, its so annoying sometimes to work with that, as I'm a designer, the colors gradients look bit choppy.. anyone else having this issue

I have color banding as well on my LG panel. Its quite usual on 6bit color panels. The only thing that can be done agaisnt this is replacing it with a 8bit panel.

Its an excellent screen otherwise. True the banding sucks. But all the other parts of the screen are top notch.

So I was checking out compatible screens whilst ideally looking for an 8bit panel, and I found one. "SAMSUNG LTN156HL06 C01"

    http://www.panelook.com/LTN156HL06-C01_Samsung_15.6_LCM_overview_24666.html

Panelook states that it is a "Glare" type panel however, the UK stockist of this screen states that it is an "Anti-Glare" type panel which is what I would want. Suffice to say I have asked them to confirm.

Now I'm no expert on screens so could those of you that know infinitely more than I take a look at the specifications of the screen and let me know what you think?

    I basically understood this much:
    8bit - 16.7M colours
    300 cdm
    Contrast ratio 800:1

Oh and its PLS and not IPS....

I will do though, it seems you're right. Several places list the panel but no one actually has it.

I'm currently waiting for a response from someone in France that has it listed and I have also inquired about shipping it from the US (assuming the supplier actually has the model).

Your chap Nick at laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk is being particularly frosty, dismissing any inquiry about the panels listed on their website and basically saying that if I order "You'll get what you're given" and even being somewhat condescending saying "You need to do some research about how we (LCD suppliers) operate, then you will understand why we don’t want to talk to people like yourself :)"

It was early though, I'm grumpy when it's early!

Seeing as the range of "compatible" screens varies wildly, I'm reluctant to buy from them which is a shame as you seem to have gotten much better service.

So I couldn't find that panel anywhere, like you I found some pretty ridiculous listings which all had an air of shadiness about them. Instead, I just ordered from the same place as you and I'll just hope I get a decent panel!

I'll let you know what actually turns up. Now I just have to wait for my AW15 to turn up.... Why does doing ANYTHING with Dell take so long?!!

Really, why do you say that?

If I'm reading the specs right, your model has better colour and is brighter. The only difference I see is the response time, I'm unfamiliar with the values shown on Panelook but I assume lower is better still?!

So i have some new developments..

Dell came today to replace my 256GB SSD, and my keyboard, and my screen (which i had called for service due to dead pixels but upgraded to the WF4)

They gave me a 300 NIT LG WF6 replacement! lol!

I've installed it in my machine and I like it better than the WF4 due to 25 ms response time, its a dell part so i'll keep it.. (d'oh, 50£ wasted)

Very surprsiedt hey shipped me a 300 nit screen replacement for my 15R2.

That being said my WF4 (which is basically the same) is going to have to go up on ebay now, unless someone here wants it.

Wow! So how does it look? pretty much the same as the WF4?

So if it's a Dell part, I wonder if they will now replace those that complain about poor screen quality. Maybe they'll ship on newly built units?!

Glad you got what you wanted, can't wait to get mine....

has the same blues quirk as the wf4 where you can see grain in the blues but it's a 2015 production date. I don't know but I wouldn't bet on it as 220 nits is advertised online

Thanks for that, but I just got off the phone with Dell after a "heated" discussion with the sales person because of pricing and ended up cancelling the order.

So not sure what I'll do at this point, probably get something in the outlet this week see how it goes.

They offered me £100 refund I asked them for at least the £180 reduction they are offering on the website and they flat out said no then go on to say - "Oh well, we will offer you a better deal on your next purchase". At that point I'm thinking "just cancel it, carry on like this and there won't be a next time..."

Then they tried to tell me if I cancel I'll have to wait for delivery then return the laptop then they will process a refund. Bearing in mind that this laptop is still at the In Production stage so it quite possibly doesn't even exist yet and certainly hasn't even left manufacturing facility in China. So it's kind of on-going at the moment I need to speak to someone else tomorrow about getting the order cancelled and refunded without them needing to build and ship a laptop from China that I don't even want.

Wow! you are the second person to say they offered £100 which I find odd considering any of the jobsworths you get on the phone are allowed to offer 10%. They are pretty tight with those deals too, as I'm sure you've found out. If you didn't order that "Deal", even if you spec up the same system, they won't apply that same discount.

I would try and escalate it to a manager (if such thing exists), if you paid by credit/debit card I might be inclined to have the charge reversed though, I suspect they won't like that but you would then be able to get a decent Outlet machine. There are still some real good deals in there....

Hopefully have it sorted now. Should have the refund cleared by mid/end of next week.

And I did grab an outlet machine -

    Alienware 15 R2
    i7 6820HK
    16GB
    4K
    980M 4GB
    512GB PCIE SSD
    1TB HDD

    £1300

Much happier with that honestly, spec'd from new that machine would have been £2000+. Apparently estimated delivery is still 01/03/2016 can't imagine why it takes so long to ship something that's already built but hey ho I've waited since Mid november 2015 I can wait a couple weeks more lol.

I still have my 950 Pro so I might use that as the boot drive and use the other 512 for storage, still undecided on that though.

Strange I noticed that all of the outlet PC's had 4GB 980's none were the 8GB variant. Not that it really bothers me, would rather not pay for the extra 4GB anyway honestly I doubt the 980M could ever make use of it.

Awesome, you got the same spec as me except I got a 256GB PCIe SSD and Win10 Pro!

I personally think a lot of the 4GB model are where people have ordered 8GB and received the 4GB and sent them back. Mine arrived this morning and it is literally brand new. Thing is, I'm at work right now so I can't tinker with it!

Your delivery might be quicker than you think, I ordered mine on Friday and it arrived first thing this morning.

Let me know how you get on with it :p.

Yeah I'm pleased, glad I don't have to worry about not liking the 1080p screen I would have been pretty nervous trying to replace it if it had been a problem. I wasn't going to pay £300 for 4K on a brand new machine but at this price point I'll take it.

I didn't have an ETA, it just said "Shipped". The tracking updated yesterday morning with today's date. I didn't realise you went for the 4K, I have the 1080 model but I'm changing the panel tonight when I get home.

I see, mine is currently at "In Production" which I guess means they are testing it or something I have no idea.

Hopefully it will arrive sooner than stated.

Ok, so I just installed my new screen and the difference is night and day! Considerably brighter with noticeably better colour.

One slight gripe is that the panel has one stuck pixel right in the middle so I'm running "UndeadPixel" as I type.
