I would like to reach out to everyone else I have heard multiple complaints about bad backlight bleed. I have backlight bleed in certain corners of my screen and it is not a uniform bleed. This is super annoying on black backgrounds or game cut scenes very distracting. I had my screen replaced by dell and noted the bleed spots and they where EXACTLY the same spots as the previous panel. This leads me to believe a construction problem with the laptop itself rather than the panels. I have never heard of two panels having the exact same backlight bleed, is this possible?

I have this problem on 2 spots on mine even after 1 replacement. Not sure what causes this as talking to dell is like talking to someone with an iq of 30, have thus learned to live with it.

Maybe your screenlid isnt straight and thus causing the screenbleed. Does it go away when the flex 1 corner a bit to the back or front where the screenbleed persists?

Congratulations, you are part of the vast majority that is having IPS light bleed problems that spanned from the AW18, AW17R2, and AW15R1 and forwards. You can thank alienware's ****ty LCD mounting design for that.

I have just replaced my 1080p for the 4k version. I have the same issue, light bleeding in the bottom two corners. Its the bezel!!! I have lifted the bezel at the bottom and its gone!! A bit annoying. I'm going to look into it as there must be a way of modding the bezel to stop it.

I too recently received a computer from dell with terrible back-light bleed issues on the UHD screen. I noticed immediately, called dell, sent it out for a repair only to realize I got a new computer with the same issue again. Clearly there is something going on here.
Anyways, I am the tinkering type of person. I was wondering if you might direct me in fixing this issue. You say that I need to pull off some clips. How might I do that? I haven't opened up a computer in a long time, is there a video you might direct me to that helps at least getting to being able to manipulate the screen on my 15 r2 alienware? I want to fix this annoying screen issue and if all I have to do is open this thing up and remove "clips" I will do so. My particular screen has yellow light bleed in the top left corner area. I assume there must be "clips" that are putting too much pressure on the display? Perhaps you might clarify this process for me? Much obliged sir! -
Find the page that explains how to remove the display bezel. I used some plastic pry tools from amazon to help pry it off. You basically pull it up from the inside of the bezel. You will see in the instructions.
Once I got the bezel off, turn the laptop back on and see if the light bleed has gone. If it has then its definitely the bezel. I then refitted it but not pushing in the clips where the pressure was being applied. When I found which ones were applying the pressure, I used a pair of plyers to grip and twist them off as they are just plastic. Did that untill the screen was perfect.
My pressure points were at the bottom left and right of the screen so MOST of my clips at the bottom are gone apart from a few in the middle which hold it all flat still so looks no different.
Good luck. Let me know how you get on.
Also.... Off the subject. Do you notice any difference in playing games at 1080p with 4k screen to playing 1080p on a 1080p screen in the way of graphics? I dont know if im just used to playing at 4k so now 1080p just looks like a heap of s*** or if it really is a huge difference?Last edited: Apr 5, 2016 -
I have the Alienware 15 R2 and issue is still persistent with no bezel. Looking closer it actually looks like my top lid assembly sticks out slightly farther on the left side when closed. I am going to request an exchange based on manufacture defect we shall see. The top LCD assembly lid being crooked/bent would definitely cause uneven bleed on the screen.
