I was really more asking about the CPU option both are disabled from default should I turn on CPU performance in the bios or will it be faster with it off?

as far as I know cpu performance mode doesn't really do anything. It purpose is for more aggressive fan curve. It means if cpu performance mode is on then you laptop fan will trigger or turn on more often. If you have a bad thermal paste and don't know to repaste then turn it on. If you have no heating issues then disable it. Mine is disabled as well. For the fan performance mode if you enable it then your laptop's fan will alway be on max settings. Your will always hear it loudly. Sorry for the bad english. Hope this helps.
TLDR: no point on enabling them. LOL

Good for you. If you want to have a headache free laptop follow this guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/windows-10-clean-installation-guide.781178/
Most of the time the headache comes from MS update ruining your OS.
This thread has been derailed badly so lets end it here as your laptop is working as you want now anyways. ^_^

Does anyone know if this latest update will sort the issue where it won't turn off after the dodgy bios update? the alienware PC doctor installed it on mine even tho it had been pulled from the dell website! I talked to dell and they didn't want to know. I've been meaning to strip it down and flash the bios chip for over a year but never got round it it

No, unfortunately. The issues that the bad bios gave will not be fixed with a normal bios flash. I have not heard about any who have been successful doing so. I belive it is @Vasudev that made a how-to on fixing the problem.

I bricked mine and I had to use DDP tool @c69k linked to make a FAT16 bootable USB drive with BIOS file remade to hdr using /writehdr in cmd prompt.

i just got a new motherboard for my system.. but yeah i had to pay one time fix charge.. i got 1.3.10 BIOS, i havnt updated anything yet.. not gonna update.. BDPROC on 16th 15R2 motherboard.. and having a Asus ROG Strix Laptop with GTX 1060, seems i dont see any BDPROC or 800mhz throttle there.. have to do intense testing though..

I am done with Gaming jokebooks. I might buy refurb Legion y540 or y740 with 1060. I'm waiting for Ryzen 4000 U/H series on Thinkpad T series and will get one with base specs. The current T495 has soldered RAM unit and maxes out at 2400MHz in dual channel mode. So, I dropped it.
I renewed my socketed Lenovo g500 after replacing the entire body, SSD, more RAM and new LCD LVDS cable yesterday.
@Papusan 16th Mobo for Echo model paid from own wallet since Dell cancelled Pro & ADP warranty.
