Hey everybody, I've had my Alienware 15 r2 for about a month now and I'm really enjoying it
and believe it was a great purchase..aside from one thing...

I have read that people are receiving these with fans that have bad bearings and make a grinding
noise constantly..but my problem is just a little different.

The fans sound completely fine the whole time they are running, and then when they spin down the left fan (GPU i believe?) makes a higher pitched whirring noise for ~3 seconds when it is slowing down..and its always at the same rpm that it makes the noise.

Is this normal? Or do i have the dreaded fan issue as well? Should i try to get it fixed or just leave it alone since it works fine now? I'm just worried the fan will eventually quit working...probably right after my warranty runs out.

As its new I would get it checked out, I'm pretty sure they're not meant to make noises like that.

I suspect you hear PWM noise when the fans are slowing down to idle mode.

I have the same on my R2 and it sounds like the sound in this video

You can hear it here as well when the fan is lowering its speed.

It sort of sounds like that..but if that was the case wouldn't it do it on both fans? Its only noticeable on the left (cpu?) fan.

I wil listen to it closely when it goes from full load to idle again (it hardly spins up at all when I am doing producitvity at work).

But to me because it always happens at the same moment it sounds like PWM noise. It is the same type sound and the same type modulation.
