    Hi all,

I just wanted to post some findings, will running prime95 with a laptop cooler and default bios settings my CPU spiked to 94c and was power throttling to 2.6GHz I also noticed my fans where not spinning up in a timely manner and not spinning very fast. To fix the issue I went to into the bios under performance options. There is a setting CPU Performance mode which needs to be enabled. After enabling it my cpu only went up to 85c and leveled out to 80c average during prime95, in addition had 0 power throttle and a steady 3.1GHz the entire time. I would recommend all owners to enable this setting in bios my fan tables work perfect now and temps are good. I have not done a repaste yet so you can expect even lower temps with a repaste.

ok, if i am not bad, this new model have an option in BIOS to improve the speed of the fans. And i dont know if you have some exprience disassembling notebooks, but i recomend you to do a re-paste with the best (safe to use) thermal paste http://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Grizz...d=1446257428&sr=8-1&keywords=grizzly+kryonaut
if you dont want to spend a lot of money, buy IC diamond, more cheap and really good, cons: difficult to apply :/ nothing is perfect hahahah (if you call Dell, they are going to put you the same thermal paste) and you dont want it, you need something more PRO.
The notepal U3 from cooler master is a really good cooler, but with a well done repaste you are not going to need it.

My temps with Prime95 were much lower, but I have the I5 version
What happens when you add Furmark to the mix?

Did you also enable the Fan Performance Mode?

So all you did was enable Performance Mode, you didn't select any of the 3 overclock levels?

Interesting. I would have though the 15R2 would have a similar BIOS to the 17R3.

    Thanks for the info!

I just noticed in your signature you have the 6820HK processor that is why you have additional OC modes. I have the 6700HQ processor.

Thanks for the tip Tony. Like that once the CPU hits a certain load/temp the fans kick up and stay there till its not needed.

Has there actually been any fix for this yet? Tried the new Bios and had no luck either.
Considering also selling my Alienware 15

We need more amplifying info do you have the R1 or R2 AW 15? There is no CPU throtting problem on the R2 with 6700HQ that I can see. If you are getting the 800mhz throttle problem with the R1 try updating your system bios and reinstalling windows 10. If that doesnt help have dell replace motherboard.

Hey Tony, I had a question.
I just got the Alienware 15 R2, and was wondering if I should be putting the CPU Performance mode to enabled? I do some gaming and it seems to run fine. Could anyone give me a quick breakdown of using CPU Performance and FAN mode? I'm guessing it's to get that extra kick of power when we need it but fill me in a little more if you could. I have them both on now and the fan mode is quite loud. Do I need to have FAN mode on if I have CPU mode on? I have the laptop on a cooler as well. thanks

enabling CPU performance mode on 6700HQ chips doesnt do anything at all, its just there because of 6820HK, both uses same motherboard, and regarding FAN performance mode, Yes it does work, it kicks the moment u boot up, 2500rpm is the lowest on that mode, all the way upto 5500rpm..

Hi! I just bought my alienware 15 r2 couple weeks ago. If I enable this two modes (CPU and Fan) does it hugely affect my battery life when away from the outlet?

If so I'm okay with only fan mode cause I constantly browsing or surfing the net :)

Dont use the fan profile. That mode is 100% fanspeeds no matter what. Noisy and will wear the fans down.
