Because there are so many threads out there with active support going on I decided that it would be helpful for me and others to make a reference thread regarding defects and problems with the 15 R1.

I plan on using this info to get something done about this but I need your help for this to happen.

I need the following information from anyone experiencing any type of common problem that others also experience. (e.g. Thermal Throttling, Power Throttling, Current Throttling, Ghosting, Heat problems, Fan issues etc).
Please do no post things that could be circumstantial and isolated. There are known issues currently that affect everyone this is what I'm referring to.

Mainly please post the issue. Describe the issue, how long you have been experiencing it, and most importantly how you can recreate it.

The purpose of this thread is not to get support or a solution to your issue. This is strictly used to identify these blanket common issues.

If you read this and have experienced one of the known common issues please post. Don' just read and carry on. If people do not do something nothing will get done. Don't be lazy! I appreciate everyone's feedback.

    Thanks you!

Well here is the most common and most major problem. My system is written on my signature.
When the processor and graphics card are stressed simultaneously, the processor clock speed decreases to 800 MHz. Considering the advertised clock speed (which is 3.4 GHz for 4 cores active) we are only getting 23.5% of the advertised performance. I have been experiencing this issue since the first usage. The issue can be recreated by simultaneously stressing both graphics card and processor as I have already stated before.

Easiest way to throttle the machine is to play CPU demanding games such as battlefield 4, metro series... Other than that Heaven benchmark causes my machine to throttle after 10 mins.

EDIT: I forgot to add that you understand when the cpu is throttled easily. For example on bf4 your fps drops to 28 from 80

IN your case i really would go claim warranty. Because this is not how it should be working. There might be something wron gwith the assembly of the heatsin kon yor laptop. I have played a vast amount of games on my AW15 with a geforce 970. I never had any throttling in gaming situations. The GPU is boosting and the CPU never goes under 2.8ghz and is mostly around full boost depending on the load.

Well I can't do that because this laptop came to me as a gift and I don't even know the original owner. I don't have thermal throttling issues I have power throttling. When I stress the CPU only, it keeps its clocks however when I stress both CPU and GPU in specific games which are relatively more demanding on CPU the CPU clocks throttle to 799-1200 MHz. Also I've just checked my BBB complaint and it's rejected. Here is the response I get:
"Better Business Bureau has closed your complaint as they have determined is invalid"
I will try the 240W adapter when I meet a friend of mine who owns it and if that works I'll buy the 240W adapter. Also I have the 980m which requires more power so I think that's the reason your machine doesn't throttle. There are people who has 980m and their machine don't throttle either but I think they're just lucky.

I dont think you need to know the person you got it from. You can check the warranty details in the Dell software update application and just give your service tag nr on the phone. I would at least try it. But if it is power throttling then I am sure you just need to change the powersupply.
