    Hi everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know about this bug I'm having, and if people are heaving the same issue.

    So I have an alienware 15 980M with an i7 4710hq.
I'm running on Windows 8.1, Bios version A03. And I also have the 240Watt power supply.
(also have CPU overclocking disabled when GA is connected from the bios)

Now whenevr I boot my computer My CPU works fine Getting a firestrike score of 8400, Terra (a very CPU intensive MMO game) running on 75-80 FPS, ...

However I tend to leave my laptop a lot, to do other stuff, then I put the laptop on sleep (stand-by). And when I wake the laptop, the CPU is throttling again, like back when using the 180Watt power supply and using BIOS version A00. Firestrike score dropping to 7900 (because of low physics score which is CPU dependant), getting 55-60 FPS in tera, at the same location.

So I have to reboot my computer in order for the CPU to function properly again. For your info, the same was happening on BIOS v A02, I just recently updated to A03 and still the same.

    Anyone knows a solution?

try using intel XTU and up the Turbo boost's both to 59watts then undervolt by 30-60mv. That should cure the throttling. Well at least it did for me :)

Why the undervolt? And I also see 3 places to lower the voltage. You mean the Dynamic CPU voltage offset? Don't want to do anything wrong, or heat up my pc.

Yeah thats the one. The under volt simply helps with heat

I think Quicksort refers to a bug that limit the CPU at 800 MHz after coming out of sleeping mode.
It has been discussed somewhere in the thread I mentioned
Apparently it can be resolved by changing sleeping into hybernate look at this post:

"Forgot to mention that I have confirmed that Hibernate mode does not cause the throttled power levels. If you want to use a standby power mode and avoid the throttling, go into your Power Options and set the computer to Hibernate instead of Sleep.

At least, until Dell comes out with a permanent fix for us."

Mine does this as well. Ive tried everything to get it back to normal, even tried the undervolt method given above but its still the same.

Guess we wait and pray A05 fixes it.

    Hey all!

We're aware of this behavior and we're currently working on a permanent fix. I'll keep you posted!

We were unaware of it before A04. The report was made to the engineers in the past couple weeks. I know this cuz I was the one who reported it. I saw a thread on DCF with the info and decided to replicate and escalate.

I suppose there'll be an update that will fix that and the fan tables at once.

    @Alienware-L_Porras
What about constant cpu throttle to 800 mhz?
Is this going to get addressed as well?
You can see how many users are effected by this.
See for yourself in this thread

Trust me when I say this, but they're working on it. I even got a message from one of the higher ups saying that they're working on it.
There was a big thread over at the Dell Community Forums about this and the sleep throttle, so they should be aware of it.

I am glad to hear this over here. However I am a bit frustrated with how I have been treated by support. I have ran into some issues with them treating me like I am a burden.
When I come here I see that all issues are taken responsibility for and acknowledged.

I have been in this community for several years and the Dell/Alienware reps always care and help. The community always has been great.
I just wish they would take note in tech support.

    Thank you so much L_Porras.

Test after test now show that Dell messed up with testing and development of the new Aw laptop models, a huge mistake to use a weak 180w power supply on the new AW15 and 17r2 models. The engineers at Dell (Alienware) should have been fired from job after this big mistake... It does not matter if you bought a laptop with Nvidia Aw or Amd graphics, i7-4710 / 4720 or i7-4980hq processor. Even Aw 15 should have received a free upgrade to 240W power supply. Not only those who bought a Aw17R2. Everyone who bought AW15 and 17R2should have received a upgraded 240w power supply, wherever they live in this world. It is deeply unfair that all Aw laptop buyers outside the United States and Canada do not have the same rights regardless of whether the rules are different in other countries. Dell must obtain a new certification / verification for approval of a 240W power supply with all 2015 model Aw 15 and 17r2 laptops now for all continents that sell these laptops. It is not enough to offer laptop customers, a crippled "modern" hybrid bios.
A new test of Aw 15 and now with Amd graphics. New review dated13.06.2015... http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Alienware-15-R9-M295X-Notebook.144446.0.html
