I do not want suggestions for other laptops, I would like an answer to the simple yes/no question at the bottom of the post. Please don't reply if you aren't going to answer it. Thanks.

    Hey folks,

I've only ever used laptops for school and work type things, but with a recent interest in gaming, I'd like to replace my current laptop with a gaming laptop. I know next to nothing about parts and specs so I'm hoping to get a bit of advice. Alienware's aesthetics immediately caught my eye and the specs seem to to be pretty good despite my admitted ignorance. The current laptop that's caught my eye is this: https://www.newegg.com/p/1TS-001S-00030?Item=9SIA6R44N58363

However, from browsing around a few different forums, it seems as though there's a performance difference between desktop and mobile parts, and that games' system requirements are based off the desktop versions. The minimum system requirements I need are Core i5-2550k (CPU) and GTX 1050 (GPU). The Alienware offers a Core i7-6700HQ and GTX 970M. I've checked a few benchmark sites and it seems that while the GPU is above what's needed, the CPU falls about 13% short of the i5-2550k.

My current laptop maxes out around 20 fps on a game's lower settings, with frequent lags and crashes. So anything will be an improvement as far as gaming goes, and I'm a casual gamer, so I'm not super concerned about getting high fps at maximum settings. But is this slight difference in CPU strengths going to cause problems running games?

The Alienware offers a Core i7-6700HQ and GTX 970M - > that is a discontinued 5 year old model with a 6th gen Intel CPU. No idea why someone wishes to charge almost 2k for it. See if you can find an Alienware m15 R1 - this will have a 8th or 9th gen CPU, then match with a GPU for your budget.

I appreciate the advice! I would also greatly appreciate it if you could answer the question I stated in my post - whether or not this laptop will have any trouble running games when it's slightly below the recommended CPU. Thanks!

As I stated in my original post, I am not concerned with having top-notch settings. And as I apparently needed to add to the post, I do not want suggestions for other laptops, I would like an answer to the simple yes/no question at the bottom of the post. Thanks.

Those are literally the newer version of the laptop you want and are thinner and lighter.

I've owned every generation AW and that is literally the worse 15 generation. With that said I'll be fine to answer your questions.

The i7-6700HQ is faster than a i7-2600K so CPU is fine and will be fine for most games.

GPU is faster than 1050. It is about as fast as the 1050 Ti desktop card.

    So any game that says

    i5-2500, i7-3770, i7-4770, i7-6700 for CPU will be fine

GTX 670+, GTX 960+, GTX 1050+ will be fine

I stated that I was looking for a touchscreen laptop, and didn't see that as an option at either of the links in your post. Thank you for answering.
