    Hi all,

Got my new alienware 13r3 with the OLED display. I like the static colors, and the general vibe of the whole laptop is nice.

I'm quite disappointed with the blur of the screen though... is it normal for dark patches in a movie to leave long red/maroon trails? Anyone else notice this?

I've also seen ghosting, and the lag is actually much higher than my external dell 3417w.

When I go to install the dell OLED display driver I get an error... something along the lines of "the extended attributes are not consistent", or I get a failed install if installation loads.

I'm running at 1440p with no scaling.

    Any thoughts?
    thx
    bob

That is not normal at all. I had 2 OLED AW 13's. Neither did that. Probably a defective screen

That's a shame. Any way to take care of it without having to deal with Delliencrap's warranty?

Alienware support is needed if you want to replace the OLED screen. There is no where to buy it second hand

The biggest problem with DellAlienware support is getting them off their butt to actually do something or admit there is a problem. Just be firm with whoever you talk to.

If all else fails get the accidental damage warranty for $80....

Had my laptop for over 2 months daily use 4 to 5 hours and never seen this happen. There is also no visible burn in and I have desktop icons in the same location.

Well this can happen with OLED when you have a lot of dark background for example a totally black background with some white text and then scrolling down etc.
This is because that even though OLED has an extremely fast pixel response time that is only true for "on" pixels.
One reason the contrast and blacks look good on OLED is because the LEDs are not diodes. When you see black pixels the pixel is actually 100% off thus producing 100% black.
The time from black to "on" for a pixel is not the same as the response time.

    Another way to understand this..
If you put a plain black background , you will see that entire screen appears as if its turned off completely. That's because OLEDs have special ability to display "100%" blacks which you don't find it in any LCD.

When you scroll black background with white fonts or fast moving white objects , each of the "pixel sets" must go back and forth between 0 and 255 values because black and white have values of 0 and 255 for Red,Green and Blue.

This results in more ghosting effect in extreme low brightness and less problem at higher brightness but it still exists.

There is something wrong with the driver loading or that panel most likely; I have had my system for almost three weeks and watched numerous videos and gamed every day on it and not a single hint of either ghosting or trails, etc. Have you tried re-installing the Intel and Nvidia drivers?

I saw the trails often on samsung smartphone panels when you scroll down. The black objects leave streaks then that appears like ghosting. I am not sure but thought it was because the pentile arrangement. So maybe they use a pentile pixel arrangement screen?

The issue can't be fixed by the drivers... the ghosting is a function of low brightness, and the stuttering is becuase the 1060 signal goes through the i7, which is heavily loaded on my machine by Matlab.

Long story short, this laptop is great for people who like pretty screens. But for someone who can process lags greater than 10ms, this laptop is a total dud.

Between thermal throttling, GPU stuttering, and oled rise times, this isn't a serious machine. Back to my "crummy" p750dm. Lol
