I'm looking for a small and light laptop with high resolution screen. I heard the 13" has a QHD screen, was wondering what the max ram was? Will it take 1x16gb sodimms (I know haswell won't do 16gb sodimms but will Broadwell Alienware 13?), how many hard drives does it have space for and if the cpus are easily upgraded?

Does the 13 series all come with low voltage cpus and no quad cores?

    Thanks

Here is what I found on intelligentmemory website.

    http://www.intelligentmemory.com/dram-modules/ddr3-so-dimm/

" NEW: 16GB SO-DIMMs (IMM2G64D3LSOD8A) are compatible to any notebook/ultrabook based on the new 5th Gen Intel Broadwell processors with CPU codes i3/i5/i7-5xxxU!"

It technically should work, but it is not officially supported by alienware so its a gamble you would have to take. Also look to spend $325 dollars per 16gb stick

May I ask why you would want 32 GB in the alienware 13?

I would say if you had the AW 15 R2 or 17 R3 with DDR4 memory they may have 16GB so dimm modules in the future for reasonable price to upgrade to 32gb , but I dont see that happening with DDR3 its going away soon.

I have a bunch of 15 inch plus laptops with 4 ram slots and 32gb of ram. I really have no need for this 13" but I think the alienware 13 comes in uhd and I really want something smaller that will hold 32gb for my work with virtual machines. Some people really like cars, trains, for me I like a well built laptop. I'm actually pretty frugal/sensible in everything I buy but I derive a lot of utility from a good laptop so I find the cost is justified. I also never pay full msrp so I look for deals on those deal forums.

I would check out the MSI GS40 Phantom-001 on xoticpc, you can configure it to 32GB DDR4 for ~$1800 it is a 14" form factor though with no UHD, but on that small of a screen I dont really see the advantage to UHD its going to make the windows scaling all off.

I can confirm 16GB modules work in the AW13 R1. I only have one (removed from my Yoga 3) but it plus an 8GB boots fine and windows sees all 24GB of it. I would bet money 32GB will work as well. If someone wants to send me another 16GB module I will test 32GB for them ;)

I had the Yoga 2 but the ram was soldered. The Yoga 3 has 1 or 2 free dimm slots?

Just 1, none soldered. This is the Yoga 3 14" non-pro version.

Good to know! Thanks for the info. It's not officially supported, but I know of many people who would like to go that route haha.
