Hello my finely feathered friends,
I have the alienware 13 which came with one m.2 drive. I already have a plextor m6e m.2 drive I was using for my desktop. I plopped it in the other m.2 slot in my alienware 13 and nothing. The bios doesn't recognize anything being there. Device manager and disk management are likewise silent on the issue.
Ideas? Is this drive incompatible? Or do i need to update it somehow?
Thanks

are you running the A00 or A02 bios. I assume you tried all the different bios legacy and uefi settings and with safe boot off ofc?
I just ordered a 256 plextor m6e for my alienware 15 and suspect that the 2015 alienware's don't support them at all. First off the m.2 ports are all Sata3 which don't support the PCI-E 2.0 x2 Plextors, apart from that huge problem, the mobo can't supply enough power to the 3.3A plextor (the samsung m.2's it ships with use 0.7 A).
If you really want to max out the sata3 6gb/s you have to buy one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-in-1-PCI-...r-/231435775429?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123
i wrote the seller to make sure and will update if he confirms that it can handle the plextor m63, if it can then you can run it in the msata bay since HWiNFO confirmed that its 6gb/s. I'm pretty sure that you can't run the plextor from the m.2 bays (i'd like to have a word with the alienware team) but i'd love to be wrong. Keep trying stuff like setting you laptop to max performance power and tinkering in the bios. Good luck and updateLast edited: Feb 25, 2015 -

Hello friends
I have tried running both a00 and a02 bios for with the drive plugged in and it showed up in neither. I also have messed around with the boot options. I turned off secure boot, enabled legacy roms and all that good stuff but it still it refuses to believe there is hardware in that slot. I suspected that it was some sort of compatibility issue but I'm not fluent enough in m.2 drives to tell the differences between them.
So what am I looking for in a standard m.2 drive? The plextor drive originally came with a pci-e adapter but I have since removed that because my desktop's motherboard has an m.2 slot. Where it worked fine. -
And I am proud to be the first person in internet land to try this.

i missed my delivery today, will update when i get it and try. As i mentioned earlier the only adapter that will work is a PCI-E 2 lane adapter to 2.5" sata which would replace your hdd. Its a good idea because the plextor heats to a scary 70C+ so it could burn out your slots or damage other components if running for a long time so if you get an adapter (maybe with a case) it will take the brunt of the heat as well. I'll order a new base for my alienware as soon as someone makes one or i find someone to print me one. Then i'll use a dremel to add in cooling vents.
