So they updated aw15&17
17.3 inch has 4K screen
PCIE SSD+DDR4 support
USB Type-C with thunderbolt 3 and others
And there is an option for R9 M395X on AW15
-
That's Broadwell. Skylake is 6000.

That's true, I was about to post it until I saw your thread haha. There's refresh on many components of the previous laptop line.

Skylake will probably be refreshed in a month or two with Alienware's. -
Wouldn't such constant update affect sales? -
The 6th generation processors should be coming very soon. -
-
Sugar ,I was about to post this after reading on Engadget and decided in having a cup o'tea before I linked it all up
-
I did wonder though as to why still consider the AW interface for connecting external gpu when the rigs now have TB

Great, it looks as if they're updating the page. I'm seeing i5-4210H, i7-4720HQ, and i7-4870HQ.
That said, this will most likely be for Skylake*. Mobile i5 quad cores and the i7-HK start to appear with Skylake. The long shipping time for them could also be a giveaway to this fact.
And they added the R9 m395x. Wonder if that's another rebrand or not.
*In other words, in a month or two, all they will change is the CPU compatibility to Skylake. It'll still be the same laptop.

Gonna wait until they pan out what hardware is actually going into the machines!!! Why update the product page with false information doesnt make any sense to me. How about wait until it is know for sure what hardware is going to be shipped and then update the page. Novel Idea huh??? Seeing this across all thier lines of laptops from AW13 to the AW18....not to confident inspiring.

is my i7-4710 w/ gtx980m gonna be sucked vs i7-4870 w/ gtx980?

It says AW 17 r3 and they're still selling these laptops with soldered CPU and GPU. I wonder what PSU they ship these machines with. Maybe 150W this time?

All I see is a cash cow where they are trying to get certain buyers to dump their faulty r2, in favor of the new r3 with minimal updates. Skylake may offer some help to the issues that folks are seeing with throttling and everything else, but this seems to be a cash in quick scheme to me. If alienware cared about consumers, it would at least wait for the 990m release later this year, and refresh with skylake and the 990m (which was said to be comparable to 980m SLI). Again who knows, maybe this is just a place holder for the updates soon as others have pointed out the long build times. I wont be buying into the hype. I enjoy my r2 just fine and my 4710HQ is one of the best overclockers out there sitting at 3rd in the world on xtu benching. I will say that the value for alienware is seemingly gone with the BGA still being part of their build, and this 17 R2, will be my last from them, as others have said.

This is good.
EDIT: While all the Nvidia laptops here have HDMI 2.0 (1.4 for the AMD 15), I realized that they took away the mini DP. It might be because of TB 3 being a USB + Display port in one, but still sad to see it gone.Last edited: Aug 27, 2015 -
I wonder what BIOS they will come with?
The i7-5700HQ looks nice, it can turbo to 3.5GHz on all 4 cores/8 threads! -
Just noticed Dell/AW just released a new lineup, was not expecting that. Any info on the changes??

Looks like the U.S. site went back to Haswell. Not even seeing Broadwell anymore, except on the 13.
Wait until the end of September! -
The Engadget report says that the 13, 15 & 17 are getting support for PCIe SSD's!

The Broadwell is 47w TDP, and the Skylake is 45w TDP, hopefully Skylake will be more efficient than Broadwell and also hold sustained performance for long periods at 35x.
The TDP limit is what is holding us all back from experiencing the full performance the Intel CPU can give, mostly due to the iGPU parasitically draining TDP headroom from the CPU - ok, likely all due to the iGPU
It's an exciting time.Last edited: Aug 28, 2015iPhantomhives likes this. -

Confirmed Skylake launch schedule:
The Alienware 13 R2 will have the i5-6200U and i7-6500U in a couple weeks.
The Alienware 15 R2 and 17 R3 will have the i5-6300HQ (?), i7-6700HQ and i7-6820HK in a couple weeks.
The new models will be shipping in approximately 2-3 weeks. The first mobile Pascal GPU's should follow by Q1/Q2 2016.Last edited: Aug 28, 2015geniusfb and iPhantomhives like this. -

So unless I'm missing something, it looks like the 4k option has been removed from the 15 inch.

J.Dre is you table real? Are the release date for Skylate in general or referred to Alienware?
-
Yes, that is the official launch schedule for Skylake. That's what I meant by "confirmed."
P.S. If you haven't noticed, that's why they shipping dates all say, "20-24 business days." -
You have an R1 though right? -

So I'm assuming no Broadwell in the new Alieware lineup? Straight to Skylake? Placing an order now for the AW 17 R3 UHD.
Will see what CPU comes with it. -
Broadwell is old news now that Skylake has finally launched. -
In regards to the AW13, I believe you guys are right, but would like to see it on the order page before I pull the trigger...
-
The day Alienware listed the 17 R3, 15 R2 and 13 R2 on their site, the 17 R3 was listed with the i7-5700HQ. Went back to the site two days ago and they had changed the listing to i7-4720HQ.

There's something definitely wrong with their site. Checked just now and the AW 17 is now listed as the R2 again with just the 4710HQ or 4980HQ. The 15 still shows up with the 4720HQ.

-
Confirmation?
-
In other words, the upcoming lineup will have Skylake CPUs. It's a good marketing tactic what Alienware is doing. It worked before, so why not use it again. -
-
That's good news. Will keep my eyes open on my order (still in "pre-production")

Nice) While skylake has more PCI lanes, is it possible that the GA can now run at more than x4 speed? -
the intel data sheet claims the 6700hq doesn't come with intel vPro and intel txt while the 6820hk does. Also 6820hk can be overclocked.
ddr4 ram. hope they allow future upgrades to 32gb.
Dell still hasn't updated their site though.Last edited: Sep 2, 2015 -
Just placed a new order (different config) and Skylake CPU is in the order confirmation
