Am I out of touch, or does this seem like a winner?
I mean, every review are saying.
1) It gets hot - but it doesn't throttle
2) It's heavy - but has great build quality
3) It has iffy battery life - but not terrible
4) It has a mediocre trackpad - but who uses a trackpad for games?
Otherwise, it's a full blown, quad-core i7 13" laptop with a desktop class 1060. A 13" laptop that truly plays pretty much every single game out there at high/ultra at 1080p at 60fps. That's incredible.
Plus it has REAL NVMe SSD speeds now (wonder if you can RAID0) and user-accessible RAM and storage.
Plus, the OLED is gorgeous.

The graphs were for Fire Strike, if I recall correctly.
The main difference I see with it is the CPU temperatures. They aren't as high as those on the 15 R3 and 17 R4, but that may be due to the nature of Fire Strike rather than anything else. However, the GPU temps are, as should be expected, hotter.
Also, US prices are up. A maxed out 13 R3 costs $3374.99 + shipping + tax.Last edited: Nov 1, 2016PMF likes this. -
I'm super bummed that it looks like there is no 6820HK. Now I have to think hard whether to go for the Aorus X3 or not (less weight, more performance, 2yr warranty, slightly cheaper, but no OLED, no graphics amp).
Edit: I'm looking at http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/alienware-13-laptop -
All I did was use the customize and buy option in the configurator. If you're on a mobile phone, you may want to check off "Request Desktop Site".

Hmm... does it have a 32GB RAM option?PMF likes this. -
Yes, it has 32 GB of RAM.
You guys might want to clear your browser's cache.

At the end no GPU options at all... sad. This damn AWA promo page got my hopes up

It starts at $1200? WHAT LOL. Dellienware trying to be the new Apple?
Did not expect that. -
-
Also, thje 13 R3 comes with a 180w charger. -
I'm very surprised about that. The 1050 and 1050Ti just hit the market.
-
Yeah, but rumors say that the notebook versions of the 1050 (TI) will not hit the market until Q1 2017
-
Oh, I see. This is great, though! I'll order one ASAP.

Another review from Laptopmag
http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/alienware-13-r3-oled -
Why is the 13 almost the same width as the 15 inch? They are both about 15 inches wide but the 15 is 12 inches deep compared to 10 inches on the 13?

Ships in 23-27 days? Looks like it will be a long while before we start to see general user reviews.

So I am trying to decide if I want this and return my 15. To be honest it will only be used mainly for LAN parties and to do some gaming/work via Citrix on the go.

I'm deciding between returning my MSI gt62vr 6re dominator pro for this but anyway I shake it its more money and gpu is a downgrade and most importantly, my laptop seems to be great all around (minimal light bleed, amazing WiFi speeds, super cool and quiet at load, etc).
I'm guessing with discounts I could get the AW 13 around $1,800 how I want it configured and the MSI was $1,400 (@ microcenter...I know, cheating) -
But this laptop looks amazing and would love to see the 6700hq matched with a 1080 via AGA. Performance would be sick!

I also wouldn't be surprised if someone haggled their way to get the 13 R3 for cheap (relative to its actual pricing). -
-
I didn't expect them to be so expensive. The system I want is over $2300 (with warranty). That's only $700 less than my X99 desktop build. And the previous Alienware 13 R2 with the highest specification available is about $1000 less. They are marked up this year, wow... May look elsewhere or wait until the hype dies down.
Hopefully they have those coupon deals again. 30% off sounds nice. -

Meanwhile whilst some of you are complaining about price. Some of us are still refreshing the page on the Alienware uk page

The configuration I want is $1,925. So 10% off is around $1,730. Still too much but would definitely be a sweet laptop. Congrats to everyone who buys one!

Dave2D has a review up on youtube. and damn i must say. Its a nice system. Alienware made something very special for the price. Normally this was the domain of Aorus and Razer laptops and they are PRICEY. But Alienware made it for a lot cheaper without the downsides of heat and noise.
-
Curious on its actual thermals with the 1060.

My config costs $1609.62 - haven't pulled the trigger yet. Planning on buying extra ram and a 1TB M.2 drive myself. Tough trying to get that extra discount off of dell chat reps though. Any of you guys have any luck haggling with Dell CSRs?

I'm just a University student trying to make ends meet, but even so, I consider myself somewhat familiar with this market and very familiar Alienware products. In my opinion, they made a mistake with the price point on this Alienware 13. Simply putting it at $999, or maybe even $1099, would have been much more effective. They would probably sell 20% more units. Their upgrades are also very expensive.
The Alienware 13 seems to be the best 13" gaming laptop on the market (for now). But it doesn't justify the highest spec'd model costing well over $3000 before taxes:
I may not be purchasing this unless they have those coupon sales again (up to 30% off).Last edited: Nov 1, 2016Gov. Rick Perry likes this.
