Where do we go to talk about the new 13? They made owner's lounges for the 15/17...but not the 13...

i think it was removed. i found the thread you talk of via google search yet when i clicked it it took me to this site but there was an error which linking it to this thread means it was removed. me also, is interested in the th aw13. it will be my 1st AW. i ordered the 15 but cancelled in favour for the aw13 because it has a form factor im used to in 13-14". plus i dont want to downgrade from a 1070 to 1060, i think that the performance will be felt, so just rather have it outright. so if theres anything sites about it or threads on here. just point me to it.

Hey folks, an owner's lounge for the new 13 model will be created once this model is released.
Owner lounges are just that, places for owners of said model to discuss. And since this model is not yet released, well you get the idea..
If you wish to discuss about the yet to be released 13 model, feel free to continue here (accepting title change suggestions to reflect that though).toughasnails, custom90gt, ALLurGroceries and 1 other person like this. -
I'm thinking of picking up the new 13 any idea when it's released?

Was it ever clarified that the 13" would have both 2.5" and PCIe for storage?

The new AW 13 is a little bigger (WxD) than the current one. Would not make sense to eliminate the 2.5" bay. -

Ultimately, thermals on the CPU will probably be determining if I stay with my current OLED R2 or not. I expect the GTX w1060 will be plenty cool.CATALANOpunch likes this. -
It should be available for order pretty soon, around the 16th of November. I may purchase the AW13.

Can't wait to see some thermals; hope you post a review -
maybe you'll get a nuclear bomb for free with every aw13r3? -
-
and was this only for the 13? not the 1080s for the 17? -

It seems like dell is updating the Alienware page. The 13 pictures are getting swapped. We might get the 13 specs later today

If you check products -> laptops -> View all laptops ( http://www.dell.com/en-us/gaming/alienware-laptops?~ck=mn) you can see the new 13 image and description, the config is still old though.
Btw, I'm returning my new 15. Got my eyes on the 13 again.
Edit: they reverted back to the old images/description.Last edited: Oct 28, 2016 -

I assume the new AW 13 will have DDR4 Ram? Also, if the cooling is good enough, the GTX 1060 should be overclockable above a GTX 980 desktop? -

i don't see anything. the whole alienware website is down.

Concerning the 1060. I've read that the specs might differ per manufacturer, they might downclock it to make keep the temps down. Judging from what I've seen with the 15 that won't probably wouldn't be necessary. The 15 doesn't seem to have any trouble cooling the 1070, it's the cpu that is overheating.
They might stick to an i5. -
Really looking forward the new 13... very conflicted on going for a 13 with i7hq and AGA or 15r3...
I'm going to miss al storage options of my p870dm but I can compromise -
Concerning the lighting, all of the (leaked) promo footage shows that the new 13 doesn't have side lighting. -
If you do decide to go with the 15 you might want to know that there are overheating issues with the 6700hq en 6820hk options. The tweakers on this forum have shown that this can be resolved by repasting and undervolting but if that isn't your thing, you might want to wait until Dell/Alienware addresses these issues -

It will be DDR4, here is a PR site for the 13.ThatOldGuy and Djangi like this. -
Edit: I see it gained some weight. The previous (leaked) product page claimed that the new 13 is about 2.2 kilos, it's 2.6 now. Very heavy for a 13 inch. -
I've used the AGA in the past and worked good enough with the 17r3 -

Anyways, looking over it, it looks like
- Both AMD and Nvidia GPUs are offered. Likely the RX 460 for the AMD option.
- Only CPUs mentioned are HQ
- Has Dynamic Overclocking? However, the description only says it'll keep the CPU and GPU in Turbo state.
- DDR4 RAM up to 2667 MHz (2667 MHz is reserved for the i7-HQs in the bigger laptops, so that confirms an i7-HQ for the 13 R3).
- Dimensions are as follows.
HEIGHT (LID-CLOSED): 22 MM. (0.87 IN.) TOUCH, 24MM. (0.94 IN.) NON-TOUCH
DEPTH: 269 MM. (10.6 IN.)
WIDTH: 330 MM. (13.0 IN.)
AVERAGE WEIGHT: 2.6 KGS. (5.8 LBS.)- OLED screen is the only touchscreen among the screens provided in all the Alienware laptops. That means it's also the only with with a glass panel.
- Looking at the renders of the internals, it has 3 total heatpipes.

"WE OFFER CONFIGURATIONS THAT INCLUDE SSDS AS THE MAIN BOOT DRIVE WHERE YOUR WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM IS STORED FOR QUICK, FAST, BOOTS AND A LARGE HDD AS A SECONDARY STORAGE DRIVE WHERE YOU CAN CONVENIENTLY CHOOSE TO MANAGE AND STORE YOUR MEDIA, PHOTOS, MUSIC, OR OTHER ARCHIVES."
Interesting that they say SSDs with an "s" cant see them fitting another M.2 slot. Maybe reference to the 2.5" SSD bracket? -

Also the whole thing is 1.7" deeper than the current AW 13
Only mention this because that makes it too big to fit in a standard 13" neoprene sleeve -
Either that or the 13 R3 has 1 M.2 2280 slot and 1 M.2 2242 slot.
However, reading that, I wonder if Alienware copy-pasted some text from the bigger laptops' pages. -

When they had the initial product page up, it said SSD-only storage. However, there were mistakes on that page (dimensions for one) so we will just have to wait and see.
Definitely no Kaby Lake to start with though, they are not going to take orders in 4 days for something that will only arrive in December at the very best.
Usually the glass/touchscreen adds several hundred grams, so that probably accounts for some/all of the difference we've seen so far weight-wise. I agree that 2.6kg is really pushing it for a 13" though. The Aorus X5 weighs that much, with a 6820HK and 1070 (and 15" 120hz screen, 4 slots of RAM, 2.5" drive and 3 M.2 slots). Unfortunately the Aorus runs hot and loud as a result, and has no AGA or even TB3 for an external graphics dock for additional longevity. Still, it feels like there should be some middle ground between the two options.Last edited: Oct 28, 2016 -
