OK guys had my aw15r2 now for a week and while playing some dark games I've noticed some light bleed.

I'm a bit ocd with this sort of stuff so I need an opinion of if it is bad and should I do something about it, or live with it.

It's a matte 4k panel, works perfectly other than bleed

See images below on black on camera it looks worse than it actually is. On a dark grey it's virtually invisible without looking for it. Your thoughts ?

Honestly, I have had a number of issues with light bleed, and that has to be some of the worst I have seen... Send those pics to AW Support and request a screen replacement. I have had screens replaced that were half as bad as that one, thankfully my last one on the 17R3 came back 100% perfect with zero back light bleed but that was a brand new system replacement in that case.

I would NOT tolerate that. For the amount they charge we should never have any back light bleed.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Its mediocre light bleed. I have seen worse. But o always send them back until inhave without.

Those 4K panels do have backlight bleed often.

So one person says get it fixed, another says pretty normal. Gonna have to add up the votes on this one.

OK well going to see what others say. Tbh only the top left hand corner bother me on black, or working in the pitch black. However I'll ask dell about it

Thing is I don't want some ****ty contractor coming out to do a bodge on it.

I would suggest a screen replacement. My R3 has some light bleed but not as bad as that. The right is where it's worst spot is from the picture.

Beware, your old laptop was probably a TN based panel. All Alienwares are now IPS based (minus the OLED panel in the 13), and unless the IPS panel is mounted PERFECTLY with no tightness or pressure in any area, you WILL have light bleed. I went through 5 panel replacements on my Alienware 18 before I gave up any hope of eliminating the bleed.

Are you saying replacing it is pointless? Currently it's bearable I don't want to up with something even worse

Could go either way. Could be better, but it can also get worse. I have a "decent" panel in the 18, only major light bleed in the upper corners and nowhere else. It took 5 replacements to get to that.

Could you post your screen up for comparison please.

Took a few more shots which are more accurate to the issue. [IMG] [IMG]

The top left corner is my only issue the rest of the screen is so minor I don't notice.

Only that left tip is an issue as the screen colours are altered so very slightly

Interestingly the more you push and prod it the worse it gets if you let it settle it's not so bad.

I no longer own my 17 r2 or 17 R3 due to overheating and bleed issues, and my Alienware 18 is out of commission for motherboard failure. All I can is describe it to you, as a yellow which is strongest in the top corners and fades out to less intensity as you approach the center of the screen. It made watching movies and playing dark games unbearable, as the yellow was glaringly obvious.

Sometimes they send you a new laptop and pick up the old one later.
The yellow you describe doesnt sound like light bleed. But like a problem with the whole screen itself. I came across various LG screen (Also in tablets) that are more yellow on 1 side and more red on the other.

Ok they've been and tried. In short the mounting system is a POS and they have improved but not resolved the issue. Currently i'm now waiting to here from support as to what we do from here.
    Currently i'm unsure as well...
I don't know of any similar laptops which i could get instead. I need the 7 hour battery, illuminated keyboard, 32gb ram, SSD + Archive storage and of course the 980M if you have any recommendations please let me know as i'll be either negociating some form of compensation or refund.

Prtty much all laptops with thes epanels have some lightbleed. The tolerances are unfortunately too small. As you noticed a slight push on the bezel already changed how the backlight looks. The FHD panels dont have these issues by the way. But those arent as great in terms of quality as the 4K panels.

I had a feeling this was the case without the bezel its perfect. But I'm not using it without it lol.

So any suggestions or just out up with it?

Really depends. I had to see it in real to make a clear judgement. LIght bleed to me always looks always worse on a photo taken in the dark. I dont have backlight bleed myself but I have the FHD panel. Saw 3 machines in this configuration and all where backlight bleed free. Clevo's in a similar configuration did had backlight bleed and Asus too. The touchscreen version with glued glass might be better.

My most recent post with images is the best demonstration of real life bleed.

Unfortunately to my knowledge in the UK at least there is no touch screen version with glass front.

Even the glossy panel can have light bleed! But you are also right, they are not available in the UK.

I have a small shop selling gaming laptops and haven't come across another laptop that hits all your criteria. We sell a lot of Alienware and all the 15" and 17" 4k panels seem to have light bleed. It really varies from model to model but you have to decide how much you can live with.
At home I use a u3415 34" ultrawide monitor and it has terrible bleed/glow in all corners but in all honesty unless I am actually looking for it I do not notice it in use (that said, I do not watch movies on it).

So really there isn't a alternative or solution to the problem, either I live with the awful bezel design, or suffer awful battery life at the hands of another company?

Check the reviews of similar laptops. Its nto acceptable but almost all have it unfortunately. I myself fel tpersonally that the screenlids of curent ALienware's where the best out of the bunch. It doesnt use adhesive etc so no stress is put on the screen itself. BUt the 4K panels are so sensitive to any pressure it still shows some backlight bleed.

I'm leaning towards keeping it as only on black screens is it noticeable and arguably you shouldn't use a laptop in the dark anyways

For the record I have fixed this myself, once I have settled with DELL I will post how I managed this.
