How powerful do you think this will be when the Titan X comes out? Think it will be able to be the GT80 in terms of performance? Will there be a lot of bottleneck on the 4980HQ CPU? Please post your thoughts down below, because this setup is really tempting me to buy the AW17 over the GT80...

I dont think it will beat two 980m's, especially overclocked. But it will play games "better" since its not relying on sli. In terms of bottleneck, it depends on the resolution and the game/benchmark. In most games I dont see it as an issue, but it will show in benchmarks.

We won't be able to tell if this setup will be supported by the Amplifier until it's final release. But, it would be lovely to have one of these on the Alienware Graphics Amplifier.

Yea I think it will beat 980m sli it scores about 17k in firestrike and an over clocked 980m setup scores about 15k, not to mention it will actually be able to accomplish that performance in all games

Will be bottlenecked, no doubt. How much depends on the game. Is it worth it over the GTX 980? Probably not, especially with a mobile CPU. But as Skylake is tick, there should be substantial improvements next year.

Go buy/build a desktop if you want to spend $1k+ on a desktop GPU. Doing so for a laptop doesn't make sense.

You happen to have any tips on bumping up performance that you've found? I was getting 11770 in fire strike. Had to change nvidia drivers as my changeability between mobile and desktop GPU was borked...still not sure if I've fixed that problem, but I did manage to drop fire strike scores down to around 11617. My CPU is actually benching higher but the GPU is down thus lowering the score.

So its definitely the GPU / settings... Just not sure if I've overlooked an setting or if the older driver really has that large of a negative impact on the fire strike score.

To add what Splintah was saying, are you using the laptop's panel or an external monitor?

Just using the laptop display at the moment. I swear I'm forgetting some setting...high performance power mode, set nvidia to use gtx 980 card. Ugh, I hate when I forget stuff LOL!

Use an external monitor when you get the chance. You'll notice a difference.
