Interesting. Anyone flashed to the new bios yet?
-
Going to test tonight.
-
I did earlier today. No issues. Seems like fans are running at a low RPM at room temp. But CPU temps are upper 40's which is maybe about 3-4 degrees lower than usual.
-
any news on this? Would like to be sure it works without any drawbacks before I commit.
Thanks -
Installed it, will see what it looks like over the next few days.
-
No issues to report for me.
-
any improved thermals to note?

Is it worth upgrading to version K1.0.9 from K1.0.1? The new motherboard replacement came with version K1.0.1? The big question is does it help with temps?
-
Testing now but Im only testing temps and OCability. -

I tested and it works but again (as with 1.0.12) PCH and system SSD temps go through the roof... respectively 80° and 75° Vs 67° and 56° while playing GR Wildlands @Max settings 1440p
I'm still keeping the 1.0.8.
EDIT : forgot : OC @ 4.1GHz, and UV -50mV in both cases. -
Still on stock 1.0.5, would it be worth to upgrade to the latest or one of the versions before that?
-
Well I took the plunge today and updated the bios to K1.0.9 from K1.0.1 and it actually lowered my temps by 11 degrees and no issues to be found so far! All is good!
-
I just did the upgrade form 1.0.9 and holy crap my temps dropped around 7c on all cores. Had my CPU overclocked to 4.0 core and 3.8 cache with -0.30mV offset and before on 1.0.9, I was getting temps around 73-76c with rare jumps into mid 80s when doing heavy gaming for prolonged periods of time (BF1, Forza Horizon 3, FarCry 4 etc.) and after updating to 1.0.14 I'm avaraging around 65-69C at the same settings. I did however notice some things changed in the XTU menu, like there's now this RAM clock bar and the system IccMax bars are set to "auto" and can't be changed. I actually think my FPS went down in the game too but I'm still testing to confirm. I'm hoping Dell's "thermal solution" wasn't them further limiting power to the chip. I'm not willing to trade FPS for lower temps.

Yeah i am waiting for some benchmark feedback before upgrading, i fear the same as you...
Throttling the power to improve thermals... -
I honestly think each bios update is indeed to improve thermals which would effect performance because there are way too many updates lately.

On that basis i will take the plunge, i will be doing the PCH mod at some point too so it will be interesting to see the results.
I wonder what has physically been done? -
@hal9000ht said it's downclocking to non-boost speed when reaching the 90°C in the 15R3's thread : http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...3-owners-lounge.797458/page-312#post-10515728
Advertised up to 4.1GHz and running @2.7GHz this summer ...Last edited: Apr 29, 2017Papusan likes this. -
so, anybody have a verdict on this BIOS? is it worth using or should we just let it go?
Thanks -
I have made the jump, no notice to benchmarks and no notice to temps for me ?
-
Have not noticed any difference at all in temps or performance but my temps were already pretty good at stock. I have not tried it OCed so I can't speak to that one.
