I'm new to overclocking and undervolting. I'm not looking to break any records, lol. I just want to get a little more performance out of my system and maybe keep it a little cooler. I'm not planning on doing a repaste, so I want to stay on the conservative side. So, here are my questions.

    1. I was thinking of running my CPU at 4.1. Is this a good starting point? Can I just use the BIOS to do this?

    2. I noticed in the bios that it has an option for fan performance mode. Should this be enabled?

    3. Does anyone use HWinfo for fan control? If so, what are some good settings? Can this be used in conjunction with the fan performance mode found in the BIOS?

    4. When undervolting using throttlestop, what is a good level to start at? Any other tips would be welcome as well.

    5. Finally anything else that might be beneficial for a new owner. Thanks

Hey welcome! Congratulations on the purchase I'll get right to it:

    1. Personally I would run at stock first to get an assessment of the temps / potential and if it all looks good after 30 mins OCCT (max temps no more than the 60s or 70s), then a safe daily driver for a kaby would be around 4.1 (however I doubt you'll keep temps under control under a full load for that without a repaste!), worth a try!

    2. Not for daily use only if you're going for bench records or a particularly demanding session. It basically sets fans to full speed always which gets annoying fast but of course is useful for benches

    3. I used to but for me this was buggy, I basically set the rpm speed to low, like 1500rpm for anything less than 60C stepping up to full speed at 80C in 5C increments. That way the laptop was silent for anything but benches and gaming. I did find it was buggy though and every now and would fail to ramp up the fans leaving temps to get into 90s! Therefore if you do use it, be sure you set it to set an alert if temps hit 90C so you won't get any nasty surprises. Performance mode would be overridden by manual control so no point having both

    4. Before using Throttlestop you'll need to reset limits in BIOS and XTU. Then enable speed shift in TPL, set value on main screen to 0, now go into FIVR and set this to +20mV, check the box to allow you to up the CPU core ratios and set these to 41.

    5. Setting the BIOS to 0 for all CPU performance fields in the Customisation option:

Then go into XTU and set all limits (NOT voltages or offsets!!!!) To the maximum value. Do all of step 5 before step 4

    HTH, Pete

Thanks for the reply! I'll check it out with OCCT first. I'll get back with my results.

So I ran OCCT for 30 minutes...
My temps on all cores sat in the low 60s, except when the test first started. It hit 74 when the test first started, before the fans kicked in. After that, low 60s the rest of the way.

Cool, Did you unlock power limits in steps 4 and 5 before running OCCT?

Not yet. That was just a stock run. Just got XTU installed.

"Then enable speed shift in TPL, set value on main screen to 0, now go into FIVR and set this to +20mV, check the box to allow you to up the CPU core ratios and set these to 41."

Which program do I perform these functions in? Also, in regards to the "+20mV", isn't that adding voltage?

Yeah but for any over volt it's better to really use a static voltage and not an offset
