I found an excellent deal on an AW17 R2 with 16GB of RAM, the 980M, and touchscreen.
I'm planning to pull the trigger, and immediately request the 240w PSU.
I've been reading the forums diligently, but I haven't found any detailed commentary on the 1080p touchscreen. Can anyone share their experiences?
Also, it seems like a lot of folks are having heat issues (especially with the A04 BIOS), at least while running benchmarks. How is the heat on the laptop for typical gaming use?
Thanks!

My aw17r2 system has the 1080p touchscreen. It is gorgeous! It's super responsive to the touch as well. You will love it.
I notice no heating issues (I use a cooler master cooling pad). There is the usual "gaming laptop" exhaust through areas of the keyboard but it is never uncomfortable on my system under heavy load (witcher 3 on ultra and Attila total war on maximum).
I nabbed a gtx 980 ti as well that I plan on dropping in the amplifier. From my understanding this will also serve to reduce heat within the system as the internal GPU will be inactive. I will post on here with results next week. -

I'm not trying to be rude, just kind of confused how an Alienware machine can have such issues.
We pay a lot of money for these laptops, and I would hate to have to replace a motherboard in a year or two because the CPU died and is soldered to the board.
When can we expect A05? -

I have not seen any heat issues, nor thermal throttling on the CPU due to heat stress with this setup. I'm running a 17R2 touch with the 980m and an OC 4710 (3.757 ghz stable). Using Bios A00.

I'll search. I have not exceeded 81 C on the CPU and the GPU has never gone above 72 C. The CPU is constantly monitored with Intel XTU, and the GPU with Nvidia Inspector (OC +135, 280) - but I am also running the CPU at -50mV in XTU to decrease my temperatures by a constant 5 C based on base temps.

Yeah, I've seen the thermal throttling dropping frame rates during intense gaming due to CPU throttling. I'll knock on wood and keep on pushing the benchmarks personally. As long as I keep my trackers running on temps, I should be able to see if it has the issues folks are hitting at.
