    Hey Gang,

I bought a AW15R3 in April from Dell just before they switched over to the R4.

I've had some issues with crashing due to high temps and a power brick failure, which have all been taken care of from Dell's perspective.

Since they replaced the MOBO, I've been paying attention to the temps with HW/XTU. I utilize a cooling pad and two o'cooler suction fans at the rear vents. Baseline temps with no load is 35-37 across all cores. For the most part, the temps will average in the mid 80s with occasional spikes to the lower 90s. The largest core differential temp between the cores is 7c. Now I have played with the fan settings in HW and during stress tests and large video file rendering, I increase the fan speed to 5500 RPM. This keeps the temps around the 70-80 range (with the other add ons).

I use the laptop for content creation, videography, and various other tasks with my primary employer in local government / emergency services. (No games yet so I can use the purchase as a tax write off) I use DaVinici Resolve. My office is a roving ambulance unless call volume is slow or I am at home. So a desktop for me right now is a no go. On a routine basis I render very large video projects often times taking 1-2 hours to complete even with everything OC'd.

My OC'd settings are x41 ratios, -.120 undervolted with the cache moved to the x40 ratio. This puts me just shy of 4.1 ghz.

With the current workaround of increasing the fan speed to 5500 rpm and the other devices. Is it worth doing a repaste? I don't mind the increased fan noise as I wear head phones all the time. Will this void the 2-year premium support plan I purchased?

Also, any tips on how to reduce my power throttling?

    My specs:

    AW15R3 born: April 20th, 2018
    i7 7820 HK (4.2 ghz)
    GTX 1070 OC
    1 TB SSD
    1TB HDD
    32GB RAM
    IPS 1080 with G-Sync

I know some will probably just go TLDR, but if you didn't. I sincerely thank you!

In Intel XTU or HWinfo64 you can see if there is thermal throttling taking place. If this does not occur while you are performing your render jobs then I would not worry about a repaste if the temps are in a comfortable range for you (personally anything under 90c and I am happy on the CPU). If you have power throttling, for me, lowering my multiplier to reduce the CPU power draw solved that as well but I was very lazy in messing with the power/boost stuff so could probably optimize my machine more.

Thank you for your reply. I went ahead and took the plunge and repasted. Temps are running in the high 70s low 80s on full stress test, Oc'd @ 4.2ghz. There is a single core that will reach over 90 for a single spike during the tests. I'm gonna have to repaste again with new thermal pads. I did some more research and found that XTU was causing a lot of my problems. I OC'd throught the BIOS and change my limit voltages. Now, I don't thermal or power throttle at all. Smooth sailing. Just gonna tinker some more to get temps where I will be happy.
