    AW15 R2 & AW17 R3 Keyboard temps?

How are the surface/keyboard temps on the AW15 R2 and the 17 R3 under load? Does the keyboard get really hot?

When gaming or even doing some simple 3D modeling on my AW15 R1, the keyboard temps get really high to the point where I don't want to use the keyboard any more. It's just too uncomfortable. I don't even live somewhere really hot, it was 18 degrees Celsius here the other day, that's the hottest it's been in a while!

Has this issue been solved on the 15 R2/ 17 R3? How is the cooling in general on these revisions?

Any comments or info would be appreciated!

My AW15 R2 keyboard is relatively cool, even running at 4GHz with a modded vBios and stress testing, all the heat goes straight out the back. I also have re-pasted with Grizzly Kryonaut.

THe kyeboard on my old R1 only became a bit warm when it is near the temperature where the fans should kick in, but isnt warm enough yet. ALso when charging. BUt normally the palm rest was always fairly cool.

The 17r2 (previous version) ran unusually warm, IMO. I used a 17 r2 for 30 days prior to getting the 17 r3. I would say there is a night and day difference in both temperatures and power usage. I am VERY happy with both the temp profile and the power consumption on the 17 r3.

I've sat in on discussions here regarding temps under idle and load, both with and without repastes or external cooling. It is my impression that there will be small difference between individual machines regarding temps under load. I would advise the OP that if he does buy any new machine to get busy asessing temps and comparing with norms while he is still within the 30 day return period. But he will find a MAJOR improvement from the previous gen machines.

My alienware 17 r2 can become a little bit warm on the keyboard, palm rest is cool and the area near the alienware logo/power button is hot. is this normal? my core temps max is 83 Celsius. this happens when im gaming.

Not unusual with the stock paste. Also under the logo are the GPU and CPU located. That is normal.

17R3 does get a little warm on the right side. I opted for the 6700HQ 970M model for lower temps. It definitely is still very usable and not uncomfortable. I am very heat sensitive as well. I have returned other laptops for being too hot.

Gelid extreme is not super good though, but it is longer lasting than the stock paste. So in that regards it is better. But those temps are well under the safety margins. Both the GPU and CPU are rated for max 95c. I wouldnt say this is good on the long run above 90c. But you have quite some space for longevity.
