I have searched and seem to find anything on this, I'm sure I'm overlooking it. Everytime they (friend) turns on their 13 it sits at the Alienware splash screen. It doesn't start the boot process. Turn it off and hen back on and it will boot right up. He has a m.2 950 pro in it. It is a r2 skylake with the i7-6500 CPU.
This happens every single time. Any ideas?

Never mind. So apparently it is a compatibility issue with the 13 r2 and the industry standard m.2 drives. Dellienware maybe doing this on purpose to buy their proprietary parts? Machine still works just have to turn it off and then back on and it boots, but it "isn't right".

950 pros cause a lot of issues in a lot of laptops unfortunately

We're glad you could find what is happening with it. As the previous post says, this SSD is having some issues in different laptops, but at least it is working great in your friend's (besides that small issue).

Small issue? Who wants to power on Then off then on again everytime you want to use a computer? I've asked several times for part number to get rid of the m.2 adapter and switch it over to standard 2.5 but those parts numbers are like seeing a Unicorn in the wild. I've never had a computer have compatabilities with a storage drive that is a industry standard. i tried my OCD/toshiba nvme drive in his 13 and had the same results as the 950 pro. So Dellianware has done something specific with the firmware on the OEM 951 drives or something.

Heh, someone car or tv requires you to turn on and off and on again to use, that wouldn't be a small issue. If you rely on your computer and it is flaky and requires these little tricks to work then it makes it feel unreliable.

As of today, the only PCIe SSD that we officially support on these machines is the PM951. They are the ones we tested and sold. We cannot assure full compatibility with any other drives. I've sent the info to engineering already and this is what I've got from them unfortunately.

I'm having similar issue with Samsung Pro 512 in AW15R2. No issues for almost 2 years. System passes all diags. Recently updated to the latest BIOS. Any hints? What's the most stabe AW15R2 BIOS at the moment?

Try changing your boot mode in the BIOS (it may have reset after update). The 2 modes are intel RST and AHCI

Thanks did take a look and it was still set to AHCI after the update. Had it not, I guess I wouldn't have been able to boot at all (as opposed to this intermittent boot/wakeup issue).
