I downloaded CPU-z and noticed that my processor(I7-5500u) was supposed to be clocked at 2.4ghz, and turbo boost to 3.xghz, but was only clocked at 799Mhz. Is this just how clock speeds are shown(I don't really know the ins and outs of computers), or is this a problem and there's a way I can fix it?

I have windows 10, and I have tried looking in power settings and couldn't find any options for the Processor. Any help would be appreciated.

Does it change when you run a game or benchmark at the same time?

try flashing BIOS and reboot and disable any power saving features, could be sleep bug or something like that..

The clock will not show full speed all the time. That may be it. Try updating the BIOS and setting the PC to high performance inside the power options.

    Are you on battery?

my 6700HQ doesn't turbo on battery, but 800mhz seems very aggressive for power saving...

The question is. Isnt he just idling while looking at the core frequency in cpu z.

could be, but I doubt cpuz will stay at 800mhz, lot of fluctuations should happen, due to background tasks.. he needs to show proper screenshot when running a basic stress test for us to understand..

I just posted a similar post about this frequency. When my i7 6820HK is (thermal) throttling, it runs at 0.79GHz, weird thing being that it starts this throttling when the temps reach only 75°C.

could be ur PCH temps, check that.. advice you to run intel XTU, just monitor that in background, enable graphs like CPU speed, Thermals, and on Hwinfo use for pch temps.. run any demanding game for few mins, when core clock goes to 800mhz, minimize ur game and check on both XTU and HWINFo..

If you have Express Charge. Look if your cable melted (inside of the pc). This happened to me, causing the laptop not being able to read the Values of the incoming power and run on minimal power consumption instead. Limited to 800mhz.
