Maybe this will help some people and if I need to I will post pictures later. I am running 2 xg5 NVME ssd's in my r4. They run cooler than most nvme drivers by default. Under heavy load they would get up to 60's. I discovered these heat sinks and order 10 of them.

Issue is the mounting hardware it came with bulks it up somewhat. The bands are useable but did put pressure on the bottom cover I did not like. I did some research on other mounting options. I found a thermal tape thin enough to not add anymore height and the heatsink sits flush to the chassis which is real nice.

One thing is this tape is EXTREMELY sticky. I killed a 512m.2 trying to pull the heatsink off before I realized it was bending the pcb like 70-80degrees breaking traces to the chips apparently. So I slowly twisted the other one back and forth applying a little more pressure overtime till I got it broke free.

The reason I had to take them off was I made a rookie mistake. I placed the heatsink down on the drive after they were in the laptop and placed them to high and covered the screw holding the drives down. Normally it wouldn't matter because you would theoretically leave the drive in till it dies or you sell the machine. But my OCD wouldn't allow it and I am constantly changing drives and hardware. Lesson learned make sure you place the heat sink down just past the screw so you can get it out.

Before mounting the tape to the new drives I put in I repeated a touch all over the ssd side of the tape to lesson the tacky part so I can remove it more easily in the future but made sure it was sticky enough to hold. So now I have heatinks that are flush and have VERY good thermal connectivity to the heat sink. My drive never get out of the 40's under load and 4 hours of bf1 gaming the other night.

    Heatsink I used:

    Thermal tape:

The tape appears to be out of stock right now but they get more in all the time.

I plan to see if these will sit flush in my 13 r3 with the tape soon. Will update if anyone is interested.

I'm using the same type of heatsink on my stock 250Gb ssd, and while I don't get suck good results, it's still way better than before.

Not only the general temperature is better both in idle and under load, but it will actually dissipate heat when it goes back to normal load (before it would lose every single degree VERY slowly).

Today I got a samsung 960evo, and I'll use my second heatsink on it.

For the first one I used the included rubber bands, but I guess using tape is also a good (probably better) option.

Nice work, did some similar research and mods myself in the past (see my sig for more info)

I used this in my Aw15 R3. It fits perfect especially if you remove the Thermal pads and use a tiny bit of thermal paste between the chips and heatsink.
