    Ok bit of story this...

I set my aw to oc3 in the bios, and controlled the fans via hwinfo....all fine, until I noticed during mafia 3 the cpu was hitting thermal throttle on core 2

So first port of call, dell support...
They tell me the only support oc2 and if the bios is set to performance fan mode....

"skylake chips are known to have temp difference between cores and like my colleague Jaroslav said, its considered as normal. Also I have checked the OC levels with my superior just in case and can say that we do not support OC level 3 even if its an option in BIOS but this is applied on customer own risk and alienwares are not delivered by that level set by default. Only OC level 1 - 2 is supported and reaching temps below 95C with these level enabled are considered as normal and safe for the PC."

So Im now running with this noisy system that wont go over 3.8Ghz (oc2) and hitting temps of 92C on core 2...

This is my second replacement AW (due to other issues)..
Ive asked if I can repaste, they said no, that will void warranty....

    All bios/vbios are updated etc

Should I push this issue further with support ?
Bite the bullet and repaste ?
suck it up, play on oc2 and buy asus next time ?

Where abouts are you? I'm sure repasting does not void warranty.

"The processor repasting is not recommended in your case, as there can be more damages done to internal hardware, by this action. This means that if any hardware will stop to work after your repasting action, the repair will not be for free of charge."

    Also -
"I can inform you that the processor repasting is not covered by any service or warranty."

Though on re-reading this, it kinda suggests its not voided, but if you damage while doing it...thats not covered

The warranty is NOT voided by a repaste, this has been covered 100 times and there are multiple official responses from Alienware stating so. If you damage something else while repasting then that will NOT be covered by warranty and you will be on your own. Due to the massive tear down in some of the new models for a repaste it is not recommended unless you know what your doing.

with those temps and the fact I cant go to oc3, I was more wondering if its worth a repaste, or if I should badger dell support more (bad cpu silicone) ?

I've never been able to play graphic intense games on any of my Alienware's running the bios at oc level 3. None of themover the last few years. I usually OC manually for the performance wanted with better temps and speeds.

Most people that OC won't use the preset Alienware settings because in most cases they run really hot and can be unstable. Most people do it manually in the bios for better results.
