At CES 2017 Alienware had specs for a AW 17 with a 1440p 120Hz panel.

Have these been released yet or are they possibly holding off until they fix the issues with the previous 1440p panels and the white lines problem?

I had a dig around the US and CA alienware stores and couldn't find it. Being in Australia I will have to wait a few more months for it to be available as well.

I'm in the market for a 15" 1080p 120Hz or 17" 1440p 120Hz laptop and was hoping Alienware might do it for me :)

They are being pulled because there are new panels incoming and they don't want to ship any more out that they are going to have to replace down the road. I am waiting for a replacement unit as well and because I had the 120hz screen I have to wait if I still want that screen.

The systems with the 144p 120hz panel have not been pulled. They are still on the US site and I just ordered two of the QHD configs recently.
I checked with a product manager recently and they did not say they would be pulling the systems with the existing QHD screens.
They confirmed there were not delays as a result from the LCD panels. They did however indicate there were some delays from motherboard shortages.
However it seems that majority of the delays were the GTX 1080 configs.
They did however confirm when the revised panels do come out, they will replace them with no problem.
I'm guessing the 6820HK + GTX 1080 + 1440P config has not even reached the Aus market yet.

I was told from two different escalated reps that while you can still order them with the 120hz screens the orders will more then likely be delayed until the new screens are available. Whether that happens or not is anyone's guess as the information that comes from the reps changes more often the the tide. As it stands now on the Canadian site anyways, the only way to get a 120hz model is to order the ludicrously priced 1080 model at almost $4k with the 6820hk as it has been pulled from all the other configs.

I was told that even if the replacement rep put the order through with a 120hz option it would just be delayed anyways, so here i wait.

Any kind of direct customer reps including escalated reps unfortunately often do not have correct info. Even Frank Azor himself has been known to give out incorrect information.
The person I got my info from was the product manager of Alienware. They confirmed the only shortages are related to motherboards.

As of now the existing QHD panels are still shipping. Matter for fact the status of the revised QHD panel is "being worked on" by AUO. The fix technically doesn't exist yet, which is why there is a broad Feb - March time frame. However it is confirmed that AUO is committed to resolving the problem.

So since there technically as of now there is no abundant stock of the new panels it would be really foolish of Dell to not sell the old ones where they wait for the new ones. Especially because they have G-SYNC motherboards that can only be sold with G-SYNC panels. So that would mean they would have to stop selling the GTX 1080 models completely. They would also have tons of G-SYNC 1070 motherboards they couldn't sell. That would cause even more problems.

Definitely due to the model not being out in AUS, we don't even have the gtx 1080 option yet.
