just recieved the R2 (970m) model, i owned the R1 (970m) model for a year, i have to say the R2 does seem better than the R1 model, i noticed it doesnt get as hot, the fans run quieter, the display seems more crisp.

on the R1 model, (970m) i noticed when running the GPU at times there would be a latency plus i would get lines across the screen, like it couldnt render things correctly, and on the R2 everything is smooth.

the engineering has to be different, even though the specs are very similiar, i think they did more under the hood than they are releasing.

Strange that you like the R2 panel more. I had the R1 as well before the R2 and it was a superior panel in every way even though while both panels that I had came from the LG 156WF6 family.

The Skylake is just a more energy efficient and more cool running CPU in general. Your GPU problems might just be a faulty GPU because I experienced nothing like that with 2 Geforce 970M boards.

I'm a bit surprised at your comment about the screen, especially when coming from an R1!!

I also had wondered if i had a faulty gpu on the R1 at times the system would blue screen, torward the end of owning it, the screen would go out completely, would have to hard power it off
