    Hiya!

    so: win 10 with the creator's / fall update. 16g ram / 980m / 6820hk / 1tssd / 1thdd.
    bios 1.3.9

I'm trying to update to 1.3.12 from http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=FPRFR and I keep booting into bios recovery saying:

    Rom image is not loaded
    Rom image update denied

**ERROR** Flash update failed to initialize. Press any key to reset system.

If relevant, I have secure boot on and whatever else this laptop's bios default is except for maybe OC lv1.

Put the update file on an fat32 USB formatted drive and start the update from your bios or boot menu.

    @Bele
Works all the time. You must see Dell Flash update utility when you f12, simply plug the usb drive and select the executable and installation is done in 5 mins.
    Do like Rinneh said.

    Got it running. thanks folks!

Finding it odd that this is the first instance I've had to do it this way. I've always just ran the exe from windows.

Have you tried flashing newest BIOS using the above method?
After BIOS update, power down the computer for 10mins and do a power reset.

Did you update IRST driver v15.7.1025 from Intel and updated iGPU and GPU driver after BIOS update. The BIOS update has HT bug fixes, RAID support 15.5 driver, GOP driver and fixes AW CC slow startup on creators.

Your antivirus or something similar could have been blocking the bios update. The bios update is being written into the memory for it to flash. If this gets bocked there will be no data that the bios flash utility can use.

Thanks for the info.. Can you direct me to where to download the latest intel software as I have tried there utility and it says im up to date. I got my drivers directly from dell except the graphic drivers.
These are the following drivers that I've got. If you could share a download link for the updated ones please.. Thank you..
Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework = 8.2.10900.330
Intel Management Engine Components = 11.0.0.1173
Intel Rapid Storage Technology = 14.8.9.1053
About bios. I might try updating again someday(which I dont know when) as I am happy with the current version that I got. I don't want to update to the latest version and get a headache from cpu throttling. Plus I am out of warranty and we all know a bios update has always a 0.00001 chance of bricking mobo. I have learned not to fix something which is not broken. LOL. Latest version is not always great. ^_^

    Try DPTF drivers from 15 r3. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=JTXD1
Older IRST optimised for 15.5 and above. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26865/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST- Latest driver was causing slowdown on 15 r2.
    iGPU Intel https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-47-?v=t
nvidia 388 using @j95 method by removing unneeded folders from nvidia drivers. I'll post a picture of which folders to remove on BGA models so that nvidia audio gets installed just like stock drivers.
I used thermal pads on PCH and other MOSFETs and VRM like @judal57 @Mobius 1 @Papusan said. PCH temps reduced by 20-30C on full load. Used 3x0.5mm Arctic pads on PCH.

Oh. I forgot yo mention I have a Alienware 17 R3 6700hq 970m.. Will those drivers work? Would it be the same as the 15 r2?
    Edited:
My CPU temps are 64,65,62,59 celcius when playing PUBG or The witcher 3 using gelid extreme thermal paste. PCH temp max is 70 celcius no mods. So no problems there..

Like @Papusan said it will w/o any issues.
Intel DPTF driver which I linked you is for 15 r3 and it works great on 15 r2 as well. Random stutters are reduced to absolute zero for me.

Use revo with advanced cleaning and couple of reboots to give a clean install like experience.
MEI is locked to 11.0.1173 at driver and 11.0.1198 at FW.

I Was running 1.3.9 and was getting throttles. I think the worst was that I even got thermal shut down on OClv3 (overwatch uncapped FPS, I cap it to 70 normally). It's a hot place where I live and to alleviate that, airconditioning is a must.

    Haven't tested for 1.3.12.

Could update this thread later on if I do experience it. Back when I was throttling at 1.3.9 tho, it was going as low as 800mhz per core.

hey everyone, for your notice, after BIOS 1.3.9 they disabled SST from BIOS, its for skylake, i cant say the same for haswell, so called Speed Shift Technology, due to the nature of OS power control after august update i guess, check HWINFO summary.. ull see SST being Red.. while before 1.3.9 its Green.. and OS control on CPU clock is bizzare on Fall Creators Update, if u dont have proper ME drivers / DPTF.. for Echo models dell needs to update all those Firmwares / Drivers for Windows 10 FCU..

Are you on older board or replaced board? If its old try the 15 r3 IMEI driver, possibly it will solve the license issue.

I got my battery replaced, I think FCu is the issue with patchy screen.
The battery is made by Sanyo and little higher capacity than Simplo. Build quality is better and voltage is lower 14.8V DC at 96480mWh or 6.7Ah.
Its better to ask for 15 r3.
