    Hi All,

I purchased AW 15 R2 with only a 1 TB HDD which came installed with Win 10 in RAID mode.

I purchased a Samsung ssd 850 EVO and put it into m.2 slot. Until this point both SSD & HDD were showing up both in bios & disk management of Windows.

Next I plugged in a w10 usb for clean install, changed the sata operation to AHCI, and saved the settings to bios and proceeded to boot from usb drive. There I deleted all partitions on HDD, created a partition on SSD and installed Windows on SSD.

Now everything is working fine, both drives are working in Windows. But in BIOS I can only see the SSD. BIOS does not show the HDD. How can I get the BIOS to show the HDD?

I have tried a power drain, a re seating of ram, ssd, hdd & a re flash of bios.

Does it have to do anything with the fact that I did not remove the hdd while doing a clean install in ssd? How can I get the BIOS to display my hdd along with ssd?

Update - if I reconnect any of the two drives and then check the BIOS it shows both the drives, but only once! It goes away if I let it boot to Windows and then see during the next boot. It stays if I exit the BIOS and enter again by pressing F2 without letting it boot windows. But then it goes away next time with this process if I try to save any changes in the bios. Looks like there is some problem with retaining that configuration. Can you please let me know how to proceed. I have tried downgrading to bios 1.8 and sequentially updated to 1.12, 1.13 & 1.14 but same problem. 2nd HDD is not detected in BIOS but detected alright in Windows.

I am out of options to try. Please help me resolve this.

I am curious as to why you changed the SATA mode? I bought the EVO M.2 850 500GB SSD, left the mode as Raid and cloned the HDD to the M.2 SSD and it worked fine. Removed the 1TB drive since I didn't need it and it works great.

Everything works great for me as well in windows. Its just the BIOS which will not admit that there is a HDD connected to it. I changed it to AHCI as it was suggested to me as a better/ faster option if I plan to use SSD as my boot drive.

Are you able to see both your disk drives in BIOS & in windows as well?

Yes, both drives show up all the time in the BIOS and Windows 10. I've never heard of this option being better than the default.

I am of the opinion that I personally do not change settings unless there is a need (i.e. some problem has manifested that such a change may mitigate) to do so. Leaving the Raid setting worked and I have no issues.

Have the same issue with OP as I have just recently installed windows 10 redstone 3 and changed mode from Raid to Ahci. On windows 10 redstone 2 it was on Raid. Does anyone know whats the cause of this or this is just how the alienware echo models work? Just curious. ^_^

Try deleting the RAID partition, it might be the conflict.

no raid partition at all.. just one 500gb ssd m.2 and one 2 tb hdd.. no raid array.. the only reason i changed the sata operation in bios to ahci is for the benefit of faster operation for my m.2 ssd.. to be honest i canr really tell the difference between raid and ahci.. I just wonder if anyone knows the reason behind this.. I am not really bother as both drive are working properly.. i might roll back to redstone 2 using macrium if needed and change to raid.. ^_^

Restore that MR backup and see if it works correctly.
