Hi all,
I have a new AW13, i7-5500, 1440p screen, 960m model that I'm trying to run an HP wireless HDMI transmitter from. This, for anyone curious what I'm talking about: http://www.amazon.com/HP-Wireless-TV-Connect/dp/B0062FZ2UA
The device absolutely works, 100%. Has for years, I can pop it into my M17xR3, x51R2, or anything in-between and it'll startup like a champ. (windows 7 vs 8, 8.1 doesn't matter either)
When I try to use it on the AW13 however, the transmitter (usb to microusb powered) won't keep powered.
It'll startup, try to connect to the receiver, it might last 5 seconds, then shuts down.
It's not the HDMI port, as i can use that via cable, no problem.
I can also use the HDMI transmitter with the USB connected to another computer for power. (so only plugged in to HDMI).
SO, the only conclusion I'm left with is the USB portS (all 3) are somehow not designed to specs and under-supplying power.
I don't have any other port-powered devices, outside of mouse/keyboard, but nothing that runs this kind of juice. But has anyone else run into something similar?
I'm open to suggestions on things to try. I've tried, on balanced power/max performance, on/off battery, different microUSB cables, etc, to no avail.
Any help?

First check the USB hubs for " Power" and " Power Management":
If that didn't help; it shouldn't happen, obviously, but it is indeed possible there's something faulty in the hubs' design or on the motherboard. Could try checking with a multimeter and/or use a usb power-splitter to divvy the load. That would, of course, sacrifice two ports ... -

Hi again,
Thanks for the replies. I've been out traveling a lot, so I haven't had time to get back to this.
t456, unfortunately, those settings had no effect. My google-fu is failing me, I can seem to find a dual USB to micro-usb cable either. I'm guessing because micro-usb'd things shouldn't draw this much power? If you know of one, I'd love to see it...at least it's a good "plan B". Curiously, I never saw anything in the "attached devices" list like your screenshot. Neither from the laptop (not working) or from my desktop (working)...
Alienware-L_Porras, I have no idea. I don't see anywhere in the documentation that references numbers.
IIRC, microUSB allows for 1.8A at 5V (equal to 9W) So I'd assume somewhere around there...
I have no way to test this, but I can say it works off every HP/Dell/Asus/Apple computer that I've ever plugged it in, until the AW13, so it can't be THAT close to the limits.
All drivers are up to date, am I missing anything?
Further source materail on the HP kit, but nothing technical enough to give power req's.

You need to look under ' Control Panel' -> ' Device Manager'.
It's mini-B, right? Search for ' dual usb hard drive cable': USB Dual Power Y Shape 2x Type A - Mini B Cable. -
Hi again,
t456, Sorry, I should have been more clear...
I found device manager, but didn't see any itemized products (e.g. intel Wireless Bluetooth (R) 100mA)
Thanks for looking too, but no, it's MICRO usb (like most non-apple smart phones nowadays.)
I've seen a lot of the dual power for USB3 to micro, but that obviously won't work...
In the picture, it's the one on the far left, not middle.

Cheers! -
Root hubs do report 500 mA per port? And micro-B exists too: Dual USB A to Micro-B. Dual USB 3 to micro would've been fine as well; requirement is to be backward compatible with USB 2, meaning that all those pins ought to be connected too.
